    they're pretty crappy.

You can get a digital Acu-Rite from Wal-mart for about 12 bucks..it reads indoor temps, out door temps (probe), and Humidity as well.

It has been my experience that the mechanical ones are not accurate at all. They seem to give a general range so 40% could acutally be low 30s to low 50s.

I would get a digital one...an Accurite from Wal-mart is only about $14 and it will tell you the temp as well.

Nice to see Florida is cheaper then Indy (by $2 bucks...typically midwest pricing model  )

I don't have any experience with this type of hydrometer, but your humidity could very well be at 40% if you have a screen top...

Then modify your screen lid with some saran wrap and some ventilation holes instead, or switch to a plastic tub as an enclosure.

put tinfoil on the top of your screen lid then seal it all up with black duct tape, leave one side untouched for your lamp (if u use one)and your access hole, that should keep the heat and humidity in, i was having problems keeping my humidity up until i did this. the black screen lid with the black tape looks good, cant tell it's not supposed to be there!!!

Everyone here seems to be busting it but mine seems to be working just fine. I place it directly on the surface and I havent had any problems whatsoever. I also have a thermostat on and the 2 are always the same.

I think (from what I read and understand) is that the hygrometer sensor is on a probe not in the unit (like Acu-rite) so you could get better placement. I see lots of interest in an incubator setting where the high humidity kills normal thermometers.

Yea the Zilla one has two probes one for temp and the other for humidity...works pretty cool and it is small and sleek.
