need help, new in orlando
So I now live in orlando. I have done a search and found a few petco's and a whole bunch of petsmart's which I'll be hitting up tomorrow as I need more aspen bedding, but I am having a heck of a time finding a place that sells live mice, anyone in the area have any suggestions on where to go to get good clean mice in the orlando area?
Btw, for a 2 day trip my snakes did an excellent job for being in pillow cases for the whole trip.

Re: need help, new in orlando
Welcome to Orlando! I'm glad the trip went well.
Pet Bazzar on 436 carries reptiles, reptile supplies and live feeders. They usually stock up on Fridays because there is a rush every weekend.
Also, the Petlands around the area usually sell live rodents - you just have to ask because they keep them in the back. The Petsmarts and Petcos do not sell live but they may carry frozen - it's up to the store.
PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Re: need help, new in orlando
Name some major intersections close by you and i'll help out as best I can.
I buy mice from Petland. They're expensive and i hate buying live...but i'm not in a position to breed my own rodents right now. I've got a small freezer full of frozen rats and mice, but some of mine refuse to eat f/t at the moment..so until they're converted, i have to run to Petland.
When Petland runs out of mice (Friday's are usually the best days to go), then I have to go to Petco down the road, which is even MORE expensive....
Alice, I guess the Petco near you is exactly the opposite from mine...they sell live mice and have a terrible frozen selection.

Re: need help, new in orlando
Lets see, the apartment is over on Shaols Drive, some big intersections from me are University Blvd and 426, 436 (Semoran Blvd) and E Colonial Dr, Aloma Ave and 436, Goldenrod Rd and E.S.R 50 (E Colonial Dr). Heres a map of where I'm at, sure this helps alot more:

Thanks for all the help! Especially from Kasi and Shannon... :8: :D
Alice, where about on 436 is that Pet place?
Any of you Orlando peeps near the area on that map? Would be cool to meet some other board members.

Re: need help, new in orlando
Okay I am from orlando and I visit my family every few weekends I may need a locals help here but....
On 436 between 17-92 and I-4 if you traveling towards I-4 there is a pet store on the right hand side. They have reptiles and feeders in there. I am sorry but I dont know the name of the store maybe Alice or Nate can help on this one. Also my brother gets his from a Rat farm out in Apopka. If you go to the Central FL Herp Society meeting there is a guy named Harold there and he owns the Rat farm. He also sells bags of the Harland Tenkad shredded aspen pretty cheap. I get my aspen from him in between shows.
I am about to leave to visit my mom in O-town and I will get the name of that pet store for you.
Hope that helps.

Re: need help, new in orlando
well i found about 3 petsmarts, 1 petco (first I have ever seen), and the pet bazaar. gotta say the pet bazaar worried me alot. I guess I have been spolied by Pets Palace back in KY where they were a MASSIVE pet store but also took great care of their animals. Pets Bazaar is a different story. They house tons of snakes together, I believe I counted about 9 good size BP's in the same tank, and there were two tanks like that. They also had ANOTHER tank that had three NORMAL ball pythons on it and on the tank it said "Pastel Ball python $249.00" so I dunno if there was a pastel and they sold it, or if they are trying to pass off those three normals as pastels, dunno, didn't ask. I will get my mice there as its the only place so far I have found that sells live feeders, but as soon as I find another provider I will most likely get them somewhere else.
nathanledet, we should meet up, I'm about as lost and confused in this town as a new born in a topless bar. :8:

Nate, the Petco I frequent sells mice and rats as pets, but not feeders. Does yours sell feeders?

To my knowledge, Orlando does not have a reptile store that is even close to your description of Pets Palace. Check out Petland - they sell live feeders from the back room but they are at least twice the cost of Pet Bazaar.

I'd like to find out the name of that place. It's a little farther than Pet Bazaar but may be worth the extra drive for me.
I have priced the feeders from Harold up in Apopka. He was a bit high unless you're buying a large number from him. He is usually at the Central Fl Herp meetings.
Good luck!

Re: need help, new in orlando
I was wrong on the location. It is pet bazaar that I was talking about. I thought it was between 17-92 and I-4. Pet Bazaar is actually a couple of blocks before 17-92.
Sorry Guys. Like I said I only get in to Orlando every few weeks. I know that there used to be more pet stores however I cant seem to find them anymore. Years ago there was a Pet Safari over on Michigan west of the Gabriels over there. I think it closed down, I guess Pet Smart and the other big chains have run them out.

yeah, Petland was out so I went to Petco the other night and the guy who was getting them for me asked what kind of snakes I had and i had a brief conversation about snakes...so he knew exactly what I was getting them for, and had no objection.
I try to avoid Petco because I end up spending ~8.00 for 3 adult mice, which is crazy expensive.
-
Re: need help, new in orlando
sheesh adult, rats are only $6.00~ ! At pets palace I could get two mice, adult and a small for $2.23, although size doesn't matter twice mice is $2.23...guess thats was a hell of a good price?
-
Re: need help, new in orlando
Yes, a very good price! Maybe you could convince them to open a store down here.
-
Re: need help, new in orlando
If they did, they would blow all the pet stores here out of the water. And here I thought down in FL the pet stores would be unreal, cause thats what I have been told. Although the Petco I went into, the first one I have ever been in mind you, was actually a really nice store, well cleaned and the place looked just all around really really nice. Not much for reptiles, but they did have signs saying they suggest to feed frozen food and to ask them for more information, so I assume they do sell frozen food.
I did buy a small mouse and a med rat today, small mouse was nice size for my little girl, but the med rat was big for my male, he still took it like a champ though, he caught the rat in mid air as i dropped it into his tank, but he def has a lump now, gonna try a small rat in a couple of weeks.
