    A little mystery
Why is it we get to be known as the "animal people"?
A friend is on the way over with a kitten *sigh*
She found a kitten she says "under 6 weeks old" in front of her apartment tonight. She's allergic, so there's no telling how old it actually is, she wouldn't really have a clue about cats. And of course, the first person she thought to call was me. Otherwise she'll take it to a shelter. Of course I can't say no :(

I do not need or want another kitten! But I will see if I can make sure it's in good health and find it a loving home.

I'm not sure there's any animal I could say no to rescuing.

Does the hissing cockroach count as an animal?

cause I would never let one of them sons-a-bumpasses in my house!!!

    Well....
    It's a GIRL!

    http://sarah.digeratihost.com/images/phoebe.jpg

I'm not sure how old she is, but she was HUNGRY and covered in fleas. We gave her some kitten food and a flea bath. Jeff is trying to get her settled into a kennel for the night. She's a very talkative little baby.

My friend Kristin found her, but another friend of ours, Mary, was there too. Mary brought her to my place, knowing I have all the kitten supplies on hand. Mary rents a room at Rick's house (another friend of ours of 10+ years). Mary really wants the kitten, but we have to convince Rick to let her! We will all be at Kristin's birthday party tomorrow night, so we will be working on Rick. Mary would make a wonderful cat-mommy, so here's hoping! :D

Ohhhh and the kitty could be Mary's birthday kitty! :D Nothing prettier than a cute fluffy kitty with a big bow tied on it's neck, how could Rick say no! It's wonderful that you've taken this poor baby in Sarah and I'm sure you'll find her a wonderful forever home.

Haha, yeah, with the 3 of us girls working on Rick, I'm hoping he'll be a pushover

Well here's the baby this moring:
    http://sarah.digeratihost.com/images/phoebe1.jpg

I took Mary's word for it when she handed me the kitten and said "Here she is!". Upon closer inspection this morning, I really think "she" is a "he". It can be hard to tell before 8 weeks, and I think this one is right at 6 weeks. I don't think it's been weaned, as it keeps making grunting noises while nosing my hair. Also, the hips are protruding a bit while the tummy is very round and large, so I'm thinking a worming is in the cards today.

Marc is enjoying his role in the rescue as well:

Very Cute kitten. We used to do that when we had acerage it was out in the country and people were always just dumping puppies/kittens by the roads. We'd go out on the horses and come home with a new kitten or puppy. Once we got them healthy we'd find them a home. My husband is a fire fighter and I can say about 25 of his fellow fire fighters have great pets from our efforts.
Sadly when we moved into town we stopped doing this just not space.. though we did get our fourth cat from my daughter finding it along side the road a few months back.

I'd guess your age at closer to 8-10 weeks. As a rough guide, a kitten that stage should weigh a pound for every 4 weeks of age. If you post a picture of the butt, I can gladly sex it for you. :-)

Really, you think that old? We got Lizzie at 10 weeks, and she was about twice the size of this one. I'll get a weight on her in a few minutes.

Oh, and Jeff says she's definitely a girl. He's a better sexer than me. heh

Rapture, I hear ya. Seems like everyone is finding abandoned kittens this month.

Hehe, I'll also be seeing this cutie patootie's booty, LOL, tonight so I will be able to determine what it is besides being a cute kitten.

And I hear ya on the "Yay... Kitten season...". I like setting traps out in the crappy part of our town and catching the feral cats, spaying/neutering and releasing. Makes for a rodeo of a day :)

So Becky, in all the excitement, I forgot to ask you how old you think this baby is? I also forgot to get you some of these brindles to take home, they are ready! lol
She's only 1 lb 3 oz, but a bit skinny due to the worms.

I also agree that she looks maybe 8-10 weeks old just based on her looks. Poor nutrition from the start makes them look younger than they really are.

She looked really good other than the tooting :) But we won't blame her for that tho, icky intestinal parasites!

I love kittens but my cat is the boss of the house and she hates other cats. I find kittens all the time where I live. we have roughly 20 stray adult cats on my street alone. the post is filled with cats, and at night the streets crawl with kittens... you got to see it to believe it. every morning I go around our street and pick up the bodies from the night befor that were hit by cars.. it's really sad.

Wow, that's just amazing to me. Lizzie was soooo much bigger than she is! This poor baby :(
Her tummy is MUCH less bloated now, and she's not emitting those vapors anymore, though, haha.

Since Rick isn't budging on the issue, I need to find her a good home.
