    You can have TV hair!
    I am a hair dummy.
As I rapidly close on 40 and my body has betrayed me, I have finally started to care about my hair.
Anyway, I recently went on vacation, and for the first time got a hair cut at a spa. I walked out of there a changed person, and with an armload of miracle products.
I went home and did a bunch of research to confirm what the spa had told me and it turns out there is a whole lot of stuff I didn't realize all my life about how to have healthy hair.

So Kara and other hair-lovers listen up!

    1) never brush wet hair...use only a comb. brushes will put much more force on the hair and lead to more breakage/hair loss

    2) brush dry hair with Boar bristle brush with a rubber base! The boar bristles will smooth your hair shafts and redistribute your natural oils. They are also anti-static. And, the bristles and rubber base comply well to your head, giving your scalp a great massage which will increase blood flow and stimulate hair growth. I shopped around and bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cricket-Finish...2113736&sr=1-1
I love to use it - it feels so good!

    3) moisture! my hair is dry, so I am now doing hot oil treatments once every few weeks. I also switched to a milder shampoo and better conditioner.

    4) OMG Shine Drops!!!!!!!! This stuff is a miracle. You ever see those TV ads where the model swings her hair around and it's like a perfect cascade of sillk? I never had that before until I tried this stuff. It's basically a silicon that you rub into damp hair. Now your hair is like teflon! And it lasts all day! I am so thrilled with this product. This one is the one I have tried but I am sure there are other brands: http://www.amazon.com/Steiner-Shine-...2113555&sr=8-3

    5) Dying your hair actually thickens it!

Anyway, I feel like a geek now :rolleye2:

If I could just bic shave my head bald, I would. I couldn't care less about it 90% of the time, and I used to have waist length hair. I use cheap shampoo and a spray-in conditioner called Glo-Coat made for dogs.
My friends keep raving about my hair. Grrr. And I'm 36 and never taken care of it. I offered to shave it all off and GIVE it to one of them.
I'm glad you found stuff to make you happy with your hair. There's lots out there about nutrition and hair as well. Look into gelatin, and also keratin products that you might be able to use as well.
Treating hair that's already grown is one thing, but treating the body to produce better stronger hair will also help.

i'm totally with you on shaving my head! i SO want to do it because i really despise it and all other body hair except for eyelashes. if i could remove every hair on my body except for my eyelashes i'd do it. the one and only reason why i don't shave my head is because people would stare at me and i HATE to be stared at. it's rude! just think how nice it would be not to have to wash or worry about your hair, or to shave your legs or pluck eyebrows... ooooh, it would be heaven. there is no purpose to all that hair anyhow and, i'm sorry, but certain body hair is just gross. the eyelashes--now they have a purpose, and for that i'm willing to keep them. :)

    Haha, NAIR!!!
I actually am not bothered by body hair(in fact I like guys with body hair) but the hair on my head just bugs me. The front is falling in my face, and I am going to trim it again. I can't stand hair in my face, to the point that hair in other peoples' faces bugs me! LOL. I tell myself "It's their hair, shut up" but part of me just wants to use a pair of shears...
I haven't had my hair professionally cut in about 3 years I think. I just wet it, brush it(yes brush) flat and cut it so it can't reach my eyes. Then I'm done for antoher month or three. LOL. Every so often, I wet all of it, and brush ALL of it forward and cut everything, then later on have someone check the back to see how badly off I was.
And I STILL get complimented on my hair. Geez.
BTW< I cannot bleach, color, or curl my hair. It refuses to take any color, will not bleach, and won't hold curl more than 24 hours. This is both professional and home jobs. I even used manic panic green, and even my white hairs stayed white. I gave up at that point.
I got aries stubborn brown hair. It's determined.

    [PSA ;)]
All very good info (and routines I've been using since growing my hair out ;)), although I disagree a bit with the info on dyeing. Chemical dye may thicken hair to some extent, but in the long run does more harm than good by exposing hair to all sorts of nasty things that are extremely difficult to pronounce, some of which are even known carcinogens! :O Henna & indigo make excellent strengthening dyes, and are all-natural to boot if you get them from the right sources.
    [/PSA]

SO where are the pics?!?!?!!? And where did you go on vacation? Can't wait to see/hear all about it! :D

no way would i use nair on my head--once i used it on my legs and apparently what was the right amount of time for my calves was NOT the right amount of time for my thighs. i got this bright red, burning rash type thing--i could barely get myself into a pair of pants to go to work for the next 3 days. never again.

i like guys with body hair as long as its in the right places. i don't think i need to elaborate on that... :D but yeah, it's just hair on ME that i hate, everyone else can do as they please. :)

I have never had problems with hair...yet. I am only 19 though also. I do keep up with shaving my face, arms, and chest. I don't get thick hair on my chest or face but I like it to be all smooth. For my legs, I have an electric razor with a attachment to thin out longer hair before you give it a fine shave. That gets used on my legs and other unmentionables

I love long hair (on me, dogs, horses.. etc etc. lol)

Mine's waist length.. and I use tips 1-3 all the time. No silicones for long hair though.. it can actually lock moisture out and cause brittle dry hair.

I love my hair too. In winter, it actually helps insulate my head when I am out plowing snow or cleaning the barn. I am an introverted person usually, and while I do not "hide" in my hair, it adds to my security and I would feel naked without it. In summertime it makes a great cooler also; simply go outside with it wet, and it cools ya off :)
How about some of your hair pics? :D

Henna shampoos are great! I use them, since they are one of the few shampoos that dont have soduim lourel sulfate, XD. I'm allergic to that junk.

The shampoo gives you a nice subtle highlited shine. I love em. Believe its called Henna Gold, if anyone wanted to try it.

Haha. I'm pretty much the same way. Wash it. Comb it. Walk to work. I have short hair, though.

And about the male body hair? It HAS to be in the right places. O_O

I naturally have very thick massive ringlet curls that are impossible to work with and have caused me enough pain and embarrassment as a child. When I was old enough to start paying for my own salon trips and started regularly going to the higher end spas to get my hair cut, I remember how excited I was to learn that my hair is not nearly as impossible as I thought it was. I invested some money in professional products, a T3 blow dryer, tourmaline diffuser, ceramic straightener and thinning sheers and now I'm a pro on styling my own hair and get brave and cut it from time to time. Anyway, I'm glad you've learned what you have and are just as happy to know you can make your hair look great :gj:

Same thing happened to me - I ended up going to the ER with really bad chemical burns... like you said, never again.

As for my hair ... sheesh, nothing works on it. It is to my mid back and No defrizzer out there can control it - I've tried expensive shampoos and conditions - spa and salon reccomended, I've tried home cures, I've tried "swear by it", moisturizing it, hot oil treatments, defrizzers..sprays... creams.... cutting it, growing it out... nothing.

I gave up and wear it in a pony tail with a baseball cap 99% of the time.
