    Meet the New Snakes
Well the numbers just rose a bit around here with the addition of 5 new female ball pythons, bringing the number up to 3 male BPs, 15 female BPs and of course the 2 male boas and the 1 female milksnake. Thought you all might enjoy a few pics (or I'd get killed by Robin if I didn't get my butt busy and post them tonight LOL).

This is Edana, her name means "fiery" and she's an 07 normal female. She's quite a cutie and the second most fierce of this new 07 group.

Next is Kennis, her name means "beautiful" and she is just that. I really adore her pattern (even if my poor camera skills cut off her tail from the pic!).
    http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e0766grams.jpg

This is Darra, her name means "small, great one". She's the littlest of the babies and the most gentle.
    http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e0757grams.jpg

Last but certainly not least is Fianna, whose name means "warrioress". She's a real spitfire of a baby, and giving Edana a run for the "boldest baby award" LOL. Mike just fell in love with her!
    http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e0767grams.jpg

The 5th snake is an adult female. She's an LTC and reportedly laid a clutch last season. She hasn't regained her weight well and is apparently a poor/sporadic feeder. We're going to be taking things very slow with her and just hope to help her much as we did with Saoirse. We named her Danu, who is the celtic goddess of fertility. She's very shy and wouldn't show her face to say hi today. Cross your fingers for this one folks. I really want to see her come into her full glory again.

Well that's the group currently upstairs in our master bedroom in quarantine. Thank you to AndrewH for hooking us up with these females who will be treasured in our collection.

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone. We're really pleased with these females and of course spending the next while with the itchy "I want to handle but I can't" thing going on. It will be a bit longer with this group as they settle in (the babies are all CH's) and we make sure they are all eating properly for us.

Alice, I don't like to play favorites but there is just something about Kennis for me too hon. I could stare at her pattern for hours.

You know funny enough Judy, Mike and I don't have a lot of problem that way. We pick these names based on something about that unique snake, maybe it's color or temperment or it's history so the name means that particular snake and none other, so quite easy to remember. We're expanding a bit lately so some names are celtic, some like Morag are gaelic based.

My hardest part is getting some of the spelling down pat so I tend to keep a list of the newly named by the computer for a month or so until my fingers remember the right combination of letters (Muirne and Saoirse and Doireann were some of the hardest to type correctly for me for the longest time LOL). Their Degei record always includes what the name means or how it's pronounced as some celtic/gaelic sounds are very unlike english pronunciation.

Worst part for me is I have lists of names waiting for the right snake to take it on LOL. If I see a name in my research I jot it down with it's meaning, so heck....I need more snakes...I have wayyyyyyyy too many unused and very nice names! LOL

Thanks Laura. We had pretty good luck getting Saoirse going though she's always the slowest growing female adult here as well as the longest winter faster, no matter what we do but she's come along nicely considering her past. We're hoping for the same with Danu. She's not as thin as Saoirse was. Saoirse came to us at about 650 grams which for an adult female is horribly thin, Danu is 866 which isn't great but not as thin as Saoirse was back then.

Danu is currently settling in and we'll see how it goes on the first feeding attempt in the next week or two. As we did with Saoirse we'll be offering a small rat pup/large fuzzy rat which isn't much of a meal but seems to get their digestion kick started.

If you do, her color is a smoke/faded black....not a dark black like in other Pythons. Its almost a brown in color. It looks really cool, but you don't really notice it until you put her next to a normal. I noticed it when I pulled them out of the bag :P
