My local store
So I was picking up some stuff at my local house of reptiles and was talking to the guy like I usually do about snakes and he came out and started talking to me about the venomous snakes they had there. I never even realized they carried venomous species of snake. So we walked over and I got to see my first venomous snakes other than a typical cottonmouth we carry in florida (not counting the zoo i guess). They had an albino monocled cobra which he got to flash his neck for me which was pretty sweet to actually see in person. They also had a rhinocerous (sp?) viper, gaboon viper, cottonmouth, and green tree python. They were all babies so they were pretty tiny which made it a little difficult to really appreciate them as much. I would love to see an adult gaboon and rhinocerous viper in person because I love their colors. Just figured Id post about my little adventure to the store today.

Re: My local store
Here's a pic I took recently at the Toledo Zoo featuring two of their adult gaboon vipers. Very impressive snakes and their pattern blends amazingly well into the leaf litter.

Re: My local store
Gaboons are arguably the most beautiful snake ever, IMO. Wow!

Re: My local store
Ya I love gaboons, they are probably my favorite to look at as well. James do you live in Jax and go to the same house of reptiles off beach? I think the owners name was Ben but i dont think ive ever seen him. I dont remember the guys name thats always in there when I go. Most of his knowledge is with boas and giants though. He doesnt know much about ball python care. I was definately glad he showed me the venomous snakes they had though, Id just love to see a yearling or even an adult just to get a better sense of them.

Re: My local store
Hey Mark - I live in jacksonville too ... I bought my ball at the House of Reptiles ... I now have 1 ball and two corns that I bought at the show this weekend. Did you go to the show? It was ok, pretty small. I was there between 10:30 and 12:30 pm.

Re: My local store
Ya I was there at 10:15 and probably home by 11:30. It was pretty small but it was fun seeing everything. I mostly hung around Ben Coles table and I bought a boa from him. I enjoy snakes so any excuse I can find to go look is worth it. Now that I have a boa thats going to be on a different eating schedule than my ball I have an excuse to check out house of reptiles twice weekly now instead of once :D. I was kind of expecting to see some hots at the show this weekend so that was a little disappointing. Checking out HoR today they still got the gaboon rhino viper and cobra in there.

I agree they are gorgeous! I don't think I am brave enough to have one though. I had caimans (alligators) years ago and they can do some damage. Now I only have nice reptiles! :)
Those pics rule! Thanks for sharing!

Re: My local store
Hardball, Ben Cole is an Awesome guy!
Ive known him for a while, and used to help him out clean tubs and stuff at his house in Gainesville last year, but I moved back down to South Florida.
Ben has adult Albino Monicleds in his house, along with a few EDB Rattlers.
Besides a few hots, the living room and kitchen is all baby ball racks. The back bed room is adult ball racks and visions on the other walls with boas.

Re: My local store
Hardball, if you ever get the chance to travel a bit plan on attenting the next Repticon Show in Columbia, SC. This past show was the first one I went to and it was really good for smaller show. The show has a ton of HOTS for sale, it was there I got to see the adult gaboon for the first time, AMAZING SNAKES.
