Yellow belly combos
I keep hearing that the Yellow belly's help amplify many of the morphs when combined with other morphs, and that they have so much potential.
So far, I have not seen the potential spoken of other than making Ivorys.
Does anyone have a picture of their "x morph here" X "yellow belly" or "X het Morph here" X "Het morph yellow belly"?
Im very interested in these guys!
Thanks

Re: Yellow belly combos
Try looking for pics of pastel YB's, fire YB's, and the super stripe YB. There may be more but these are all I can think of off the top of my head.
It is not hard if you do a little research. ;)

Re: Yellow belly combos
Since I seen this thread I thought Id not waste any space and make a new one.
My question is this, What will you get from a mojave x yellow belly? Is the yellow belly a recessive gene and not co-dominant like the mojave so nothing will happen? Youll probaly get mojaves and regular yelllow belly babies if im not correct?
-
Re: Yellow belly combos
Yellow belly and Mojave are both heterozygous versions of co-dominant mutations. The respective homozygous phenotypes are Ivory and sort of purplish headed leucistic.
I believe The Snake Keeper produced some yellow belly mojave’s but they where not white snakes, tending to indicate that even though the homozygous form of both is a predominantly white snake they are most likely unrelated genes involved (as opposed to some other white snake hets that might be different mutant versions of the same gene).
I believe the odds on an egg from yellow belly X mojave would be 25% chance Mojave yellowbelly, 25% chance just Mojave, 25% chance just yellow belly, 25% chance normal.

Mojave and yellow belly are unrelated co dominate genes. The yellow belly gene does wonders for other mutations
Here is a yellow belly fire.
thanks Sean

Re: Yellow belly combos
Thanks guys Im currently getting a pair of mojaves and was thinking what will happen if I would breed a yellow belly to a mojave, what will the outcome because of the gene they carrie to yellowbelly x yellowbelly=Ivory
And mojave x mojave = blue eyed lucy. But thanks fellas I have to look up snake keepers site and see what that purplish head lucy came out to look like.

Re: Yellow belly combos
Wow, now that is a very pretty snake! There is so much contrast between the gold and the brown.
So, what about a pastel/YB?! that would be another co-dom co-dom combination just like the Fire/YB combo right?

Makes you wonder ... with all of the granites and yellow bellies out there, and the ebony being proven many years ago now ... why don't we see more of them? :confuzd:

Personal opinion...granites arent that nice I like the cleaner look vs. the granite. And when it comes to yellowbelly...i compare it to the pastel price range and well i would rather have a pastel any day over a yellowbelly so maybe that is why.

Nope..I don't think that's why.

My thought on the reason is that most people don't know that a Granite + YB = Ebony
I didn't at least. :D Learn something new every day. Now where do I get a genetic granite female.

Big question is the Morph considered the Voodoo...is that the same mutation as the Ebony.
Having always found the Ebony beautiful and fascinating (Coming from both the YellowBelly and Genetic Granite) yet I never really thought about the "lack of" Ebonies, until I read your reply.
With Genetic Granites being Dominant (Correct me if Iam wrong) and the YellowBelly being Co-Dom I would think that the chance of getting them would be high. Yet their not..
All of the Below are just Deep in thought/Talking out loud ideas. Add to them or Correct me. :D
Iam now thinking towards Recessive traits. For instance the famous Snow. With an Albino x Axanthic cross is I think a 1/16th chance of getting one, unless you go the Double Recessive route. Even though we are not working with recessive traits could this indeed be the chance of getting an Ebony...a 1/16th chance?
But then the thought of cats came in my mind. Is it true that Turtle Shell cats are only Female? Well could this be the case with the Ebony? The only person I know of who has some is Graziani. Hmm Now Iam interested I really want to know more about this mutation now.
As of now I guess they are a little like the elusive Sas. :)

Huh? Sorry, your words are in english, but I don't understand what you're trying to say?
People have been breeding yellow belly x granite for years now trying to re-produce ebonies and almost none have ... nothing to do with looks or price ranges at all.

Since the first ebony was produced in what 02? 03? all of the bigger breeders with yellow bellies and granites already in their collections started trying to produce their own ebonies ... they knew what was up ... and still, you don't see a whole lot of ebonies out there.
There are more crystals and super stripes in existance than ebonies and we don't even know one 1/2 of the crystal combination and only a small few people have the snakes needed to make super stripes ... makes ya wonder.

Re: Yellow belly combos
personal viewpoint..... take away the dark coloring of an Ebony and what do you have? To me it looks exactly like a superstripe. A DARK colored superstripe. 'special granite' my foot. Anyone else see this?

Re: Yellow belly combos
I have a granite, hmmmm making me think about some yellow belly action. Anyone got good ebony pics? I was very surprised to see yellow bellies come down so much but it looks like might have to get one this year. What is the likliehood of an ebony from granite/yellow belly, 25%?

If it were 25% there would be a TON of Ebonies out there. What Adam is saying is that the Ebony was first produced in '02 or '03 and there are still just a handful (if that many) out there.

So it has to be some kind of special granite?
Or really crappy odds?

Re: Yellow belly combos
only ebony i have ever seen...cool...but so many other morphs look better to me at least...maybe that is why not a ton of people are trying to create them. Plus it looks alot like a coffee ball. http://ballpython.com/morph.php?morph=coffee

Re: Yellow belly combos
I think the reason is that there are at least two kinds of granites, geneticly speaking.
Most granites (and this is my own theory) are caused by the action of more than one gene (poly genetic). I think more trades are caused by poly genetic actions (banded, reduced pattern, non-genetic striped and black back for example).
The so called "genetic granites" are the ones giving the ebonies, not the polygenetic granites. As you all know, there are not so many truly "genetic granites" (the granite caused by just one gene). I think you can put those in the same group as the Genetic striped etc. homozygote recessive animals.
