Didn't the crystal ball sell for $100k? You think this is crazy, go on fauna and look for the derma ball. See what he was asking. And that snake was FUGLY!

I think you are right...but who buys these animals at this level. I am certain no one just browsing KS. Maybe a big breeder to big breeder type deal but these would be done behind the scenes. Not to mention if you were to buy this animal you would be 3 years behind him (since it is a female) in producing anything sellable.

but remember you would also be way ahead of everyone else with the exception of 3 or 4 people. But yea, advertising that on KS is stupid

True but the risk of rapid prices drops are real...meaning you could lose your shirt on this deal. Say the price in 3 years drops to $25K. How many people are willing to spend even this amount? (not to mention there are 3-4 others selling them)...so then the price lands at $10K. Or it could hold higher and you make a fortune...just seems awfully risky...to me at least.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
That's no surprise if the price I heard for the 'Banana Clown' was correct ($150k). BTW, if I had a $150k to blow the Banana Clown would be at the top of my list. So far the Banana Clown is IMHO, easily the best looking ball I've seen.
Ask yourself this: How can a car sell for $300K, or a painting for $50,000,000? If someone is willing to pay $100k for a snake then so what? That snake has the potential to make back that money, and then some, over time. Supply and demand... :)
-
Re: $100,000 Ball?
It may take you a few years longer to make it back because there will be a rapid price drop. But you will make your money back eventually.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
guess i dont ever have to worry about getting one of those beauties...
-
Re: $100,000 Ball?
Banana Balls are still a very rare morph and someone could probably make their money back in a few years.....if the animal remains healthy and breeds.
....however, the seller sounds like an idiot in the ad, so I wouldn't even consider buying from them. You would think someone trying to sell an animal over 10k would seem somewhat professional.....half of the sentences do not even make much sense.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
Why is this so surprising? Anyone remember how much the first Lucy's went for? Or how much Ralph asked for one of his Platinums? First/Second Gen "new morphs" go for a great deal of money, it's nothing new.
Do I think the Banana is worth $100,000? Nope. Do I think Will put too many eggs in one basket? Probably.
Not that it matters to me, I still think the Pastel Clown is WAY cooler than the Banana Clown :D.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
Wow that is utter madness!

For me the surprise is seeing it on KS...not really sure Ralph or Kara (or any big breeder who might spend this kind of money) really hunt the want ads looking for a $100,000 snake...maybe I am wrong. Also, as cool as the Banana is it doesn't make much sense as a business venture on its own (to your point the all eggs in one basket)...as part of a much larger breeding business sure...but then you are talking about million dollar businesses and how many of those are out there...only a couple maybe?
-
Re: $100,000 Ball?
It's a one of a kind animal that would most likely make the initial investment back over time.
Snakes selling for that kind of money are not unheard of. The market now may make it seem high but a few years ago, it would not have been out of the norm.
This one is a proven animal that can be used to make wild looking crosses. I spent over $3K on an unproven import animal so I wouldn't be surprised if someone buys this snake eventually.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
At one time they were saying the BlackEL is going to be 200,000+!! Thats crazy!! The bannana ball is really cool, but not worht 100,000.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
The promise of designer morphs brings a whole new market value to single morphs. Not only will the Banana be worth a lot seeing it is very rare, but the combos that this snake will make will be worth tons.
Only bad news about this morph is it seems to be co-dominant. If Will decides to let go of a couple males any time soon, we can all expect the market value of this snake to plummet. If he's smart he will sell a limited amount of females and keep the males to himself for a while...
Also, it is a very nice looking snake. I saw that website about a year ago and was blown away... this is the first time I have heard of it being available for sale.

True, that is a stretch. But that goes to the ever-growing population of breeders that seem to think they don't need a web site. I have a name for them, but it isn't appropriate for this forum :D.
But I agree, there's a select few that could afford a $100,000 snake, and none of them are going to buy a Banana for that price. Trades? I could see that, but I have yet to see any of the major breeder journals going whacky of the Banana. It's pretty easy to assume that all the major breeders have their own projects going on right now. Will is small fries... Ralph, Greg, Kara (et al) are frequently getting offers for abnormal WC's, and I'd venture to guess that's where in their going to invest their money, as opposed to investing in an animal that Will has a 6 year head start.
Banana's are cool, but man... there are WAY too many cool morphs to qualify spending $100,000. If I had that kind of money to blow, I'd be buying up Clowns, Butters, Lessers and a TON of other snakes... not one.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
Is it just me or do some of these morphs not really look that good? I checked out that site and one of them looks like a pile of vomit. Also, I think the ones with the light purple heads are sort of creepy like those semi-translucent geckos or a jellyfish.
Hey look, the King has no clothes!!
P.S.
That striped-back one is sweet for sure!

Re: $100,000 Ball?
theurbanpython.com bought the toffee ball python for $100000

Well, a lot of morphs are more about their combination potential than their "look" outright. Look at Hypos, cool sure, but it's when they do in combination with other morphs that make them real stunner's. Banana's have potential to produce colors we haven't yet... and that's where their value lies IMHO.
But everyone has different tastes. I love Sean's super reduced Clowns. I like butters better than Lessers. But that's me, and rest assured you won't find everyone agreeing with me on that one:).

Well... there's a lot of conjecture on how much X pays for Y, and I'm not sure how much of it is believable. A lot goes on behind the scenes in purchases, so while it could certainly be true, I take it with a grain of salt.

Re: $100,000 Ball?
I would guess bp morph sales in 7 figures happen more frequently than we realize - we just don't hear about it...importing, between top breeders, etc...
Personally, I think that banana looks like it has a disease or something...a little too "out there" for my taste...

Re: $100,000 Ball?
Hey my girlfriend is really big into BPs and she has got me hooked. Anyway, she knows a guy who bought a Banana Clown for 100k. And he said that he wouldnt let if go for less than 500k. I think thats a bit much but it is the most beautiful snake ive ever seen. Ill work on getting pics up it up.

Even if it was true, how much do toffee ball pythons normally go for?
