How old is your oldest BP?
So I know that ball pythons have a pretty long life span (I have heard 20 years or so) but the only ones I ever hear about are the younger ones. Which I understand....a new baby is usually more fun to talk about and take pictures of than one you already have a million pictures of, but I'm curious, how old is your oldest bp, and this won't fit in the poll, but how big are they? ^_^

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
My oldest turned a year in May, and her last shed measured out to be 35" ( first week of may) and she currently weighs 535g.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I guess I should vote too... My girl is my first and she's only about 450 grams or so and getting close to 3 feet (I think?) I don't konw exactly when she hatched....but I'm thinking she's about a year ^_^

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I got my first boy when I moved out of my parents house after H.S. (mom hated snakes)...had him ever since he is now about 14 years old (I say about as I didn't keep records back then). He is super friendly and will crawl until my hand when I open his tub to "play" with him. He is a little over 5' and 3000 grams now. All my others are under 4 years old.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
Mine is Just under 4 years old. 54 inches and 1225 grams. He is finally gaining lots of weight after eating again. Tubs work wonders. :D

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
Yeah, I forgot to say that of course we would welcome any pics of the older (even the younger) generation of balls. :D It's great that these guys keep going that long!!
And I'm thinking my girl isn't a year old yet looking at some of these lengths and weights....When I got her (in Feb.) and I asked the guy when she hatched he told me Aug. or Sep. but then he also said that she was almost a year old....and it was only February.... So I'll say that her birthday is in September with mine ^_^ haha

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
Sure!
She is around 3000+ grams. She came to me as a friend's pet. Friend had had her for 18 years...
Sorry about the bad pic, I just took her out and took a quick snap.

This girl is 16 years old.. A guy that had had her all of his life had to move to Norway, couldn't take her along with him.
Laid for me for the first time last year.
12 slugs!!! :(
Oh well... Maybe next year!

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I thought I read that they can live for up to 40 years.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
My oldest is 4 yrs old this month and he is a little over 5' long and don't know his weight ( not something I am to concerned about, if they don't look fat or skinny then I am good )
Then I have one who will be a year old on 7/7. He is really growing and filling out.
The other will be yr old 8/22. He just went to the vet today and weighs 265 grams and is around 24-28"

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
Wow Heather, your girls are looking good!! ^_^ The oldest I have seen in person was a 3 year old ball from the place where I bought my girl.
-
Re: How old is your oldest BP?
record for oldest bp I believe is 48 years old.
-
Re: How old is your oldest BP?
My oldest is a little over 4 years old. I dont know her weight since I dont have a scale, but when she last went to the vet they said she was a good size and one of the few ball pythons they'd seen that WASNT over weight. -lol-

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
48 years, that's crazy, they are almost like a deed to a house lol (gotta pass it on) :)

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
My oldest ball is about 4. Last weight she was like 2000 grams (which was a while ago). I'm not sure what she's at now, and she just ate so I can't weigh her. She was underweight and "rescued" then sold to me.
This seems to be the only photo I have on record with her in it. (the normal ball)

Hopefully she's going to lay for me this year....but i doubt it.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I don't know exactly but mine is about 9 mos I think so I don't have any big tales to tell.
When I go mine, I was really amazed by the life-span and kind of awed about the idea of being outlived by my pet (not likely at my age unless perhaps I've got my hands on a record breaker).
I also read that they stay active and alert when they get older. I didn't see any gray scales ;) but is there any noticeable change?
Also, for those of you that have had your snake for a very long time, did you find that the bond with the snake continues to grow?

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I can only guess the age of my oldest. My "known" oldest are 2.5 years, I'm guessing my rescue to be about 4 (but she could be older).
I find myself more enchanted with my bigger kids than the smaller ones. I'm wanting the smaller ones to be adults NOW, but not for breeding purposes, but because I enjoy handling the bigger ones more and I really love how they mature!

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
Wow Crisstyle....it's cool to see an older bp with a person like that, it gives a really good size referance. Good looking girl! ^_^
And Schlyne, both of those guys are looking good. It looks like she is doing well now. Hope she does well for you.
That's so amazing to think about having my girl around for that long, and these guys seem just at hot when they get older too!!! :P

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I've got another quick question, mostly for the breeders I guess. How old is a BP when you stop breeding them? Or when is it best to stop breeding them? And what do you do with the ones that don't breed for you b/c of age?
Well that was several questions, but oh well :P
-
Re: How old is your oldest BP?
When they give me several years in a row of slugs, I would usually stop.
But for the record, this has not happened yet!
Even with my oldest girl!
:D

Havening seen a 22 year female old bp at a show (it wasn't for sale), I can say that they do stay active and alert. I didn't see any noticeable changes, other than it was definitely one of the bigger balls I've seen in my lifetime.
I believe some of the breeders still breed animals in their 20's without any problems.

Thanks. :) She was bred to my cinny. I couldn't believe how deflated she was after that clutch, but she's eating pretty well now.
This is an interesting thread, though. I wonder what age was the oldest female breeder? I'm not sure if I'm going to try and breed her again. I know breeding takes a lot out of them and I wouldn't want to risk her health the older she gets.

Nice heather!
My oldest must be our WC. She came in gravid, so I peg her around 5 years old, with her size and all. But you never really know...

But I hope she will be- if not even older!! Could you imagine owning a 40year old BP? Its mind boggling:rolleye2:

Heather I really like your big girl. :)

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
:snake: 20?+ wc male. He ended up in an exhibit in southern Iowa for snakes and lizards. He just got enourmous, and he was completely unhandleable, so he couldn't be kept in a normal household anymore. Didn't have him long either. To be honest, I did not like that snake. But I was very little when he came about. He was imported and estimated to be 10-20 years old in '94, but it was relatively vague.
Could have just been a big boy for all I know. I dunno how old he is now.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I have two that are 16 and 17 respectively. They had har5der lives than my other but are just as active. they have slightly looser skin than my young'uns, but it isn't that noticable.
-
Re: How old is your oldest BP?
I've had my male for 14 years and he was wc. He was about 2 and half feet when I got him so he could be a year to several years older. He is still active but has lost most of his yellow colors. He is probably more hissy now then when I got him but he only tagged me once which was my fault.

Re: How old is your oldest BP?
