If you produce enough rats, sometimes you get some ugly ones...

I got 2 hairless/partial hairless? out of that litter and both are males. If there is one thing I don't need more of, its males.

Yes it is. I just picked up a true hairless and a super rex (to play around with). My end goal is a Blue Rex Dumbo...should have some in a few months.

LOL...I have been trying to see what kind of Dumbo crosses I could make so for the past couple months that is all I have been feeding...I only have a few normals left.

If you ever get over this way let me know and I will hook you up with a care package to get you started. :)

I just had to point out that all rexes ARE "het" for rex.

It's a co dominant gene, rexes are heterozygous rex, and "super" or "double" rexes are the homozygous form.

It's not possible to have a het for a rex that isn't a visible rex.

So if one parent was definitely NOT a rex then that's a true hairless and not a double rex hairless. Or the presumed normal parent is really a rex, I've heard that as they age, the rex coat is not always as apparent as when they are younger.

you know what's really cool about the hairless looking ratties? they change almost daily. one day they are dark and fuzzy, the next day they are patches of dark and light... then the next day they are all light coloured and seem hairless.

we loved watching our grow up but unfortunately she turned out to be a boy... and got fed *gulp* i still miss the little guy. my daughter didn't like him at all though... it "freaked her out" (her favourite phrase and she's only 8) to look at him LOL

Reminds me of my hairless dog. If my daughter saw a hairless rat she'd make it a pet for sure. She's been begging me to buy her a hairless cavy...and a hairless cat. Yes we have a thing for odd animals here..
