Eventually he will. Sometimes my BP's will start swallowing, but then they'll back off and nudge the mouse around until they find the head. Even if he continues eating the mouse rear first, it wont really hurt him any, it'll just take him a while longer.

it looks like he's giving up? will he come back for it?

Re: he's eating!!
 if it looks like he's moving away from it, you could use some forceps/tweezers and do the 'mouse dance' by gripping the base of the mouses' tail (with the tweezers) and give him a little shake. This mimic's a live mouses' movement and will entice your BP to strike and coil again. Only do this if you are sure that he's moving away. Sometimes my younger BP has to move around a bit to rearrange himself so he can start swallowing from the head easier. My year old female will simply pick up the rat and move it now that she's bigger

Re: he's eating!!
Glad to hear that he's eating! :) Sometimes they'll eat the mouse tail-first, which is creepy because the last thing you see is the mouse's face going down the snake's throat. :D

Re: he's eating!!
yea he gave up and went back into his hide, frustrating!!!

Re: he's eating!!
soak it in some warm water and do the dead mouse marionette dance by his hide. That should do it.

Re: he's eating!!
i did the mouse dance lol he looked like he was gonna strike then went into his hide more, if i leave it in the hide entrance face first will he try to swallow it again?

Re: he's eating!!
Maybe, you can leave it in over night. If it isn't gone by morning, just toss it and try again next week. :)
Good luck!

Re: he's eating!!
next week? should i go get another one tomorrow and try again? will they eat a mouse that they've killed and left after it's cooled off?
-
Re: he's eating!!
Dont try again tomorrow. It's best to get them on a feeding schedual, and if you try again too soon it may stress him out more. Just wait till next Thursday, it won't hurt him to go another week. And if he eats it tonight, it could be that he was shy and didn't like the big heat mass (you haha) looming over him as he started to eat. They can't defend them selves while they are swallowing their food, so he may just be waiting until he thinks it's safe. Good luck with him!! ^_^

Re: he's eating!!
ok i put a hopper in today, he smelt it and came flying out of his hide, he grabbed it, killed it and gorfed it down like no tomorrow, must have been starving poor guy :) tail was gone within about 2 mins!! im so relieved he ate, also i replace my rheostat with a thermostat, much better now, dont have to keep checkin the temps :) also swapped out the 100 watt heat bulb for a 60w ceramic ,much nicer
