Re: Ball bite Info
Imagine an infant pinching you with fingers wrapped in sandpaper.......... it is a little softer than that.
Don't worry about it ;)
-
Re: Ball bite Info
Most people don't even feel it. At the most you'll feel a pinch and it might burn a little

.......150 for a baby....60 for an full grown adult. You can use that to interpolate the size/grit relationship values for other sizes if you wish ;)

Re: Ball bite Info
No fangs, just some rows of recurved small teeth. I've been bit worse, and more often, by my kids. :)

Ouch

Re: Ball bite Info
well this is definitely good to know.......that just lowered any 'scared' factor I had towards my BP about 99%!
-
Re: Ball bite Info
Every time I have been bitten I didn't even see it coming and it was over with before I could react.

Good thing......reacting too fast can make bite worse. I remember being bitten by a carpet python and reacting as it struck....Because I yanked my hand back, I ended up removing several teeth from my hand with tweezers when it would have just been a few little holes.
-
Re: Ball bite Info
I bet carpets are way faster than balls though aren't they.
I'm normally goofing off reaching down or reaching under a hide before I get it all the way off the snake..then I get the pinch sting and bleed.

Re: Ball bite Info
A papercut hurts worse. The startle factor and hurt feelings are worse! LOL

Re: Ball bite Info
lol ok good to know, my kid bites pretty hard so no worries :)

Re: Ball bite Info
Another comment here, considering how many of us own ball pythons, how often our hands are in contact with them for handling, cage cleaning, etc., I often wonder what the bite percentage is. We have 13 ball pythons and I've been bitten once so I can say, at least for me, it's incredibly low.

I've had balls when I was younger, and now. Maybe a total of 5 or 6 yrs. We have 5 0f them here. Never bitten by them.:) My carpet has made contact once without gloves. My sons' redtail has got me 5 times in as many months.:( My LRT gets me weekly!

Re: Ball bite Info
Doctor shot...
Frankykeno...BPs do have fangs...I have seen them was reading that they have 2 fangs and 4 rows of little teeth.
2 on top and two on bottom...they are in inner and outer layer.

:colbert:
Fang: Any of the hollow or grooved teeth of a venomous snake with which it injects its poison.
Besides, all pythons have similar rear-facing teeth without a distinctive pair of larger teeth that may be confused for fangs.

double :colbert:
i think that the reticulated python has a different bite pattern with two diamond shaped larger teeth set inside the upper recurved teeth which "could" be mistaken for fangs. feel free to correct me if i am wrong but as i understand it, the retic is the only python with these larger diamond shaped "cutting" or "slashing" teeth in their bite pattern. of course i could be full of poop too!
fwiw i just got bit by one angry tree python last night, and while it didnt hurt too badly, the shock factor and the hurt feelings (i know, i am such a baby) were worse by a mile.

Re: Ball bite Info
It doesn't hurt. I have one biter that has gotten me a few times. I have a hatchling biter too. That is really cute!

Re: Ball bite Info
Not to hijack the thread. But anyone been bit by a BP and a RTB. I have never been bit by my ball but got bit last week by my RTB. (completely my fault. didn't wash hands completely after touching rat.) Because it hurt but not bad but it sounds owrse then a ball bite. Anyone know what is worse BP or RTB bite. Also it was only a 3' RTB.

Non compare to a Retic or Anni though :(

BP and RTB of equal size is probably close. I've been bitten by an 8ft BCI and it was brutal. Caught me on a nerve and I had numbness and pain for months.

You may be thinking of vomerine teeth. They are the two rows of teeth on the palate that help in holding prey. I don't see why a retic would need cutting or slashing teeth, when all they do with them is hold on.

your right...i saw this a while back and i was reading that this was the teeth setup of all pythons...maybe the two fangs I saw where the big teeth since they dont meet the definition of fangs.

Look you guys need to quit being foolhardy and tell the guy like it is. JeffJr, your risks are low but you should be prepared:

Re: Ball bite Info
Bearhart,
I think he's referring more to the BP bite virgin version........not a bite from a venomous snake.
Jeffjr464, just take it, that if you own a snake, you're eventually going to get bitten. Dwelling or fretting will only make it worse.
Hera biting me was harder than Pi**y Snake's when he'd tag me. She hit a lot harder so my finger was numb for a few minutes, and blue/purple for about a day...but she's an 18 pounder RTB and Pi**y was a 2# ball.

Re: Ball bite Info
Nah I'm just fooling around. I was actually directing him to a link of what to do when you lose a finger but they happened to have a snake bite thing there too.
Humor is tough to do on forums!

Re: Ball bite Info
I've been bit by corns before, and I'd say that's the "sandpaper on an infant's fingers" feeling you talked about. But I've seen the little rinky dinky puncture wounds from BPs and seen a friend get bit, and to me, it looks like it would feel more like a cat playing and getting its claws in you. Still nothing more than uncomfortable, but I would think you would feel that.
