    Question About my 9 month old columbian.
    Well he 9 months old and is a male columbian. He is a little past 3ft and growing an average 3in a month and sheding ever month sice i haved him. He has grown 10in in the last 4 months that i have hade him. Eats small rats every five days. I fead him every five days becouse even thoe he is growing like a weed it seems that he is preety skinny compared to snakes that are 1 year old that i have seen. So i whant to put some waight on him. He is at 370 grams. I also somtimes see some wrinkles on him .

    Does this seem okay for his age??
    And are the wrikles from being skinny??
    And am i feeding him enough??
    I wont be able to post pics my camera dosent work??
    But can u guys post pics and weight of your boas that are close to his age??
    PLEASE

    Re: Question About my 9 month old columbian.
    Hmm... wrinkles can be an indicator of dehydration. Does he have a bowl of readily available clean water in his tank?

    Also, it may not be a bad idea to feed him a larger meal ever 7-10 days. Sometimes frequent small meals can cause them to go off feed.

    That's all I can answer, best of luck! :)

    Well he has fresh water and the rats do leave a lump in him.
    and iu cant see the wrinkles when he is moving around in his cage .
    but when he moves around in my hand u might see one or 2.
    I saw him drink water today. wich i rarly ever see him brink water.

    Humidity levels? Temps? How do you regulate them? Enclosure? Setup? Explain as much as possible for a more accurate diagnosis of the issue. My boas are never wrinkled, unless they are going into shed. My routine of feeding is every seven days. I feed a nice meal (nice lump) to all un-fully developed boas. My adults get fed after they all poop. Mostly that is every 14 days or so. I'm guessing it's not a big enough meal or too low humidity.

    Re: Question About my 9 month old columbian.
    Humidity is around 55-65
    air temp on cool side is 79-80
    air temp on hot side is 80-83
    Basking spot 86-90(first 2 months i had him he spent alot of time on the hot sid then the next month he spent most of his tim on the cool side and know he has been on the hot sid for about a week and temps stayed the same he also shed last week)
    cage is a tub 36-15-6
    themostat on the heat mat.
    its been 4 days since i feed him and all the time i open the tub he sticks his head out looking for a rat.
    Due u think i shoul move up to med. rats our feed 2 small rats a week.
    I just moved to small rats about a week ago before that it was 2 mice a week.

    Re: Question About my 9 month old columbian.
    2 mice a week for a 9 month old? That doesn't sound to me like anywhere near the correct volume of food for a fast growing young boa. A small rat every 7 days is a much larger volume of prey (depends too on how small the smalls are really though). Don't do huge jump ups in size however. Let him adjust slowly to the change from mice to rats and a much larger single prey item. You say you are feeding him a small rat once per week but only started this 5 days ago, so he's had what one feeding of rat?

    We have a young male too. Unfortunately I lost all my growth records during a computer failure so I can't quote you exact weights at certain ages but I know he was way more than 370 grams which isn't even a pound by 9 months of age. This is our male at 10 months of age...

    300 something grams doesn't sound right at all for nearly a year old. I just bought a 2 year old male and he's 5+ pounds and looks lean to me. Is the top or bottom of his body thicker?

    Hi Mars,

    I see you got the thumb problem solved but you actually need to keep pictures under 800 pixels wide and yours are considerably larger so you really needed to make them smaller.:)

    Here's a link to the picture posting sticky in case you havent found it yet.

    are you 100% sure on his age {as in, you have had him since he was born] He looks healthy to me, just slow grown. Which isn't bad, just not the size I would except to see if I bought one online without pics.

    Slow grown is the way to go. I read a bit on Gus Rentfro at www.riobravoreptiles.com/ at this page. http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/care_raisingboas.htm Its a great read and has lots of info on growth and feeding. I've read it a dozen times and I based my feeding schedule off of it.

    Re: Question About my 9 month old columbian.
    I'd say its very possible. Boas vary in size at birth therefore a boa from a certain range(lets say Country A) may grow to an average of 3' the first year while a boa from Country B(Make up name) will only ready 26" on average the first year.

    This photo is from Gus Rentro
    Smallest = Cay Caulker
    Med = Hog
    Large = Peru Red Tail

    I would have to disagree. There are even HUGE variation in the size and growth rate throughout B.c.i. not to mention that there are many other B.c.ssp. being mixed in with B.c.i. and B.c.c.. Even baby Cay Caulker(B.c.i.) are quite a bit smaller than Hog island(also B.c.i.) when compared together(look at the pic).

    THERE IS NO SET GROWTH RATE FOR BOAS!!!! THEY ALL GROW AT DIFFERENT RATES!!!

    150 for the males and 300 females they where from 4 months to 6 months old.

    I guess hes not a coral and i dout that he is a het coral becouse know that u showed me that link. He would have been more expensive.
