    Sprocket's New Home
Some gave us this lovely big tank so we decided it would make a great permanent crested gecko enclosure in our livingroom. We're hoping to add a couple of lovely females in this space with our male, Sprocket, whose just coming on a year old soon. Sprocket's not yet in residence in these first three pictures.

Then we popped him in (he was not impressed with his little holding tub experience LOL and started to fire up a bit).

Checking out his new kitchen area....

    Hmmm what's over here?.....

Enjoying his first misting in his new and very spacious environment...

I'm intending to over time add in more climbing vines and a couple of the feeding platforms from Pangea.

PLEASE NOTE: If you notice the two heat rocks, they are being used as any heat rock should be used...with the cord cut off and just as cage decor and something to climb on. :)

I'd love to get a tank like that for geckos... it has such potential as far as cage decoration with all the vertical space

Thanks everyone. Sprocket is checking things out carefully. We are going to get two or three of these Gecko Ledges that Pangea sells, especially when we get Sprocket some lady friends.

As well I'll be adding in some cross bars for climbing and more vines. It's something I've always wanted for Sprocket but worried he'd be overwhelmed when he was smaller. This free tank fell into our laps at just the right time it seems.

Emily I seem to remember you posting how you made gecko perches out of dowels I think in some long ago thread. Is my memory right on this and if possible could you post a pic or explain how they are made?

i made horizontal perches out of bamboo--measured and cut it to size, scrubbed it down, let it dry and then put about 3 coats of water-based polyurethane on it to keep it from absorbing anything and for super easy cleaning.

i have also started using pvc pipe instead of the bamboo but that of course isn't quite as natural looking. it is however, even easier to clean and doesn't require any prep work other than cutting and cleaning.

to mount the perches i use closet pole sockets. if you need some of these shoot me a pm because i have TONS. i bought huge box full of them cheap on ebay instead of spending $2 per pair at walmart. :P

Well Sprocket seems to be settling in rather nicely and we've seen him climb straight up the glass walls and hang about in various vines/plants. The only thing I'm concerned about is he skipped eating his worms. Should I be concerned that he can't find them in a bigger enclosure though really floor space wise he should be able to locate them in the bowl they've always been served in. Is it normal for a gecko to go a bit off feed with a big tank change up?

Those make really cool cages for cresties. I have seen several people using them.

I wouldn't worry too much about him skipping his worms. Probably just readjusting, when I rescued a crestie from Petco he wouldn't eat insects for about 2 weeks.

    Has he eaten his CGD?

Oh an Joanna I have a question for you, where did you get the little yellow dish? Are they really deep? They look like they'd be perfect for feeding CGD.

I got them from PetCo actually. They have a big selection of plastic and ceramic dishes over near the water bottles (not the reptile area). He doesn't seem to care for them for his GSD, that's why I use a container lid but they are perfect to coral his wiggly worms and for his water (he gets misted twice a day as well as he likes to lick water drops from his plants and walls). Hopefully he'll snarf down his worms tonight. He's not a terribly big male for his age so I tend to worry if he isn't eating well for me.

no worries, he's just settling in and adjusting to his new home. you can show him the dish to help him out if you want but he is old enough and big enough that he should be able to find it okay on his own--he's just a little distracted by this new surroundings right now. :)

Well I did see him last night, Emily, on the ground right beside his food dish so you'd think he'd go..."oh there's my yellow dish full of grub like I've known my whole silly gecko life" LOL I think he just likes to worry me! Currently he's plastered to one glass wall way up high. I feel good that he's got so much space now to explore and that when we get him a girl or two, they should all have room to move about happily.

    Re: Sprocket's New Home
Well I'm going to have to do something here. Sprocket is still not eating his worms! It's been a week and I'm getting worried. I count the worms that go into his bowl and none are missing so now I'm worried about my little Crestie buddy. As I see it my options are either to move Sprocket back to his little home or rig up some high platforms near his preferred vines to see if that might get him eating again. He's not particularily big for a male his age so I don't want to see him not eating!

Is it possible to have too big a home for a Crestie? I thought he'd enjoy all the extra space but apparently it's affecting his eating habits. :(
