So nervous today...!
Wow, am I nervous. I am driving to work (and back, later on) alone for the first time today! I have driven alone; drove the jeep from the dealership home, about 30 miles, Saturday. But still; this ten minute drive to work is getting me all worked up, and my stomach is in a knot tighter than a hangman's noose!!
Words of encouragement are needed; how nerve-wracked (or not) were you when you started driving? Argh! At 26, "I am too old for this!"
I am not at all afraid of driving on the country road with the 55 mph speed limit; that I swear I could do all day. I am nervous about a few certain turns in town where there is heav traffic.

If I could do it at 16, you can do it too at 26.

Re: So nervous today...!
It has been many years since I started driving but I can so remember my FIRST time in the car alone and back then this town had ALOT of curvey, woodsy roads. Well...eveytime I went around a turn I would take my left hand off the wheel and hold onto the door for dear life thinking I was either gonna flip the car or that the door would fly open and I would fall out! lol!
It was years later before I actually did flip a car!
but that's another story. ;)
You'll be aiight!

Gin... you'll be fine. At least your showing concern!!! You know Jeeps are top heavy? and can flip if not driven properly... you also know that little old ladies run lights and hit you! lol ;) Just be cautious, BREATHE..... crank the radio, and you'll be fine. You'll get to know the Jeep and before you know it, you'll be itching to get behind the wheel! :D

unconfident drivers kill people. please be confident, I cant stress that enough. If you are that nervous, ride a bike to work.

Re: So nervous today...!
You are perfectly entitled to be nervous driving. I think that overconfidant drivers that think they are in charge of the entire road cause more wrecks myself. If you are nervous then you are watching for anything and everything out there.
I didn't get my license until a little over 2 years ago. Then less than 4 monthes later I drove from florida to michegan by MYSELF. You'll get used to it eventually. It's not a big deal.
I have to drive over an hour each way to go to work, and it's boring and tiring, and one day soon, that's how you'll feel about driving too. Old hat.
You go!! Good luck, and good luck on the job too!

errrr, well on some level i agree, but not to that extent. I think driving too cautious/nervous can be a problem, but on the first day you are most certainly entitled.
Anywho... how'd it go?

Re: So nervous today...!
Yea how'd it go? im sure you did fine :)

Re: So nervous today...!
The more often you do it the easier it becomes, those quick trips on roads you know, build that confidence, you will be fine. Just don't rush and it is okay to think about what your going to do.:sweeet:

Re: So nervous today...!
I'll be 29 this year, and got my first car three years ago. Driving was absolutely terrifying for me, and I still hate going new places. When I drive somewhere new, I google the route obsessively until I know exaxtly what turns I'm going to be making, and then I stress about it until it's over.
However....I've gotten more and more accustomed to it, and last year I spent two months driving a 90 mile daily roundtrip on the highway for a temporary job. If you want to badly enough, you can conquer the fear. My biggest problem is that I get spooked and panic and do stupid stuff because I can't remember the appropriate response.
My solution, oddly enough, was to bring my dog with me. When she's there, I'm more concerned about protecting her, and as a result I don't let myself get freaked out. I still don't like highways, but can manage if I have to.

Re: So nervous today...!
The only thing I don't like about driving on highways is the Semi's. They scare me half to death. But once I'm past them on the highway I'm fine. I'm more worried about some idiot pulling out/ running a light or stop sign on the streets than anything highway related.

Hey Jen how did the drive go.....radio blaring and wind through your hair ?

Re: So nervous today...!
Well, things went pretty good :) The first ride, I left very early for work; it was just the most awesome feeling to shoot out of that driveway and down that road (not speeding, of course.) Granted, the turns in town still make me more aware and attentative than normal, but I get through.. everytime I cross an intersection, I get more confidence.
Then, last night was my first drive in the dark. I had this truck following me, and I went a little slow in some spots due to a few curves in the road, and I slowed waaay down to get into our driveway (I take all turns at 15mph in this jeep, since it is top-heavy.) Well, the truck behind me put his blinker on when I went into my driveway; it was Mark! Turns out, he was worried too b/c it was my first drive in the dark, and he stalked me at work to follow me home; said I did good too :)

Awww That was so sweet of him - did you call him a stalker and kick him inna happy place? Or give him the hug and bacon butty he so richly deserves?

Re: So nervous today...!
lol; I called him a stalker but in a joking way.
This driving thing has been he** on my digestive system though! I don't even get outwardly nervous, but when I would think of it, my stomach just instantly does backflips.. I think that I have "ibs" or something. Pepto is my friend!
