Re: 20 babies!
If you have another female that is nursing babies, I would foster a few off if possible. 20 is a lot of babies to nurse. Congrats!

Awesome news Jen!!! Maybe you can make some Rex Siamise (sp?) soon

Re: 20 babies!
Crap.. the only other nursing female I have going now, has about a dozen of her own, and they are larger than these.. but this mama seems to be doing pretty good. I am definately making sure she is hydrated 100% of the time (not that any of them are not, but she has a huge water bottle.)
I just got a rex hooded; my first! Weanling size now.

Re: 20 babies!
I have a super mom that took in 23 babies recently. I wouldn't worry about it at all. A good mom seems to be able to do ok either way.

Whoa; 23.. I wuold keep that mama around!
I plan on giving this female a longer rest between litters. This has to be draining for her.. but heck, in the natural world, she would already be re-bred.. though I know that captivity is different.
I will get a pic of the litter when I do cage-cleaning.

If you have some canned tuna or something else of that sort around, give her some. The extra protein will help her out. Cooked pasta is good too.

Re: 20 babies!
Or A/D food??? Or when Creamy needs the extra for the 16 she's nursing, I do the pnut butter (thinned down w/water, of course) or oil and bread for the calories and fat. :)
The vet told me ENSURE nutrition drink is really good, mixed in the A/D food.

You can also mix pedialite with water 50/50 to help boost her electrolytes. I have been adding a vitamin supplement to my girls water that is nursing.. Good luck with that girl

I will give her some cooked pasta today; I will do the oil/bread thing now. Gotta get to the store for some tuna.

Re: 20 babies!
A nice hard boiled egg chopped up for the nursing moms is always welcome too Jen. Don't forget as well that a bit of whatever you are having for dinner is a good and free source of more protien. Ours love cooked meat scraps, leftover veggies and pasta, bones, etc. I just keep a covered old plastic icecream pail in the fridge and whatevers left on our plates gets scraped into there. It's a gawd awful looking mess but my rats love it when I offer it every other day as a suppliment to their homemade dry mix. Also a bit of cooked and diced chicken hearts/livers are a wonderful thing for the females that have just given birth and you can generally buy those at any grocery store cheap as dirt.

Re: 20 babies!
Great ideas. I am not home now, but tomorrow I will spoil her with some interesting foods. Just not too much at once.. I think that the others (1 nursing mom with roughly 8 babies) the males and pregger girls would like snacks too though!
