Re: Racks-how much space?
I put 1/8" in all my racks. When I put shelves in, I put the tub on the previous shelf and put a piece of 1/8" wood on top then lay the next shelf on top of that
Re: Racks-how much space?
Enough for the tub to slide out...not enough for a snake to get out.:)

Re: Racks-how much space?
1/8" is ideal
Max up to 1/4" for babies
Max up to 3/8" for adults
Re: Racks-how much space?
I just built a hatchling rack, i bought a peice of that masonite board that is 1/8 of an inch, cut it to fit the shelf and laid it on the bottom and put the tubs on top, then laid the next shelf down.

LMAO!!! Great answer
Re: Racks-how much space?
One thing a lot of people don't think about when building racks is how deep the slot for the tub goes. If the front lip of the tub is even with the front of the rack when the tub is slid all the way in, the snake still has a way of escaping just by pushing hard enough on the top front of the tub to bend the plastic out beyond the edge of the shelf. I like to build my racks so that the front lip of the tub is recessed at least a couple inches from the front of the rack when the tub is pushed all the way in. This is also a good reason to use plastic tubs that are a little heavier duty, it's harder for the snake to bend them out very far.

Great point mark! I think I have enough space on my 16 tub 6qt rack, but not enough on my 12 qt rack. Ill use the lids there...
