WC AD BP refuse food .
I have 1 pair WC AD BP that I purchased last Nov .

Everything I offered to them is very good even the vivarium set .

I keeping them in my rack system tubs including heating , hiding , water , substrate ... etc . They have everything they want ( I guess) .

Howevery , the problem is :

They are still no feeidng and refuse any rodents I tried .

    I tried mice , rats , hamsters , rabbits . ( I don't wanna trying birds).

I really do not wnat to force feed these BP since they are very east to get stress from keepers .

I am not guessing maybe the problem is their substrate . It's nwepaper . I don't know if they will feel more stress to stay on newpaper (All my snakes are doing fine on newspaper). I am considering maybe I sould change their substrate from newpaper to aspen bedding . What do you think about this ? Or substrate is not the point ?

I really want to know if you exprienced keepers have any good method to solve this problem since most WC AD BP will refuse food for a long time .

    thanks . :)

I know I sound like a broken record with this lately, but swap em to cypress. It got one of mine eating after 7 months of no interested in anything.

Dont force feed until they start looking really unhealthy. Just keep offering once weekly until they take. Make sure your husbandry is up to par... Thats all you can do.

If your worried about them eating, and they look skinny offer a gerbil. But I wouldnt do that more than once because thats prolly all they will eat. What was said above about the cypress is worth a shot before you even try a gerbil.

Someome told me cypress is his best choice for BP too . Here is a problem for me , I don't know what's cypress ...

I know , it's soulds very stupid , but I really don't what's cypress and I don't know how to translate this word in Traditional Chinese to someone while I want to buying cypress form a pet shop or plant shop ( I just know cypress is one substrate for planting .)

That's why I asked you how about change them to aspen .

anyway , thanks for your replies . :)

Gerbils ? I have read some other articles , they also written gerbil maybe the best feeder to make them start feeding . If I can't find gerbils , how about hamsers ?

I will trying gerbils if I can find any available in pet shop , I hope gerbils are not too expensive in Teipei .

    thanks.

I get huge bags of cypress from wal mart, for like 2 bucks each.

I use cypress for my monitors, never thought of using it for my balls. They do pretty well on aspen. If you have a reptile show near you, try to get ahold of some african soft furs. I start my CH babies on them, then just switch to rats once they have some weight on them.

The O.P. however is unlikely to have a "home depot" in Teipei unless their expansion plans are dramatically more advanced than I feared. :)

    a_chen_tw,

Do you have any pictures of the animals to help us judge their weight to length to see if it's getting to assist feeding time or if they are still holding their weight ok?

There are quite a few tricks to try and temp reluctant eaters but WC adults are renowned for being difficult. Do you precent or mist the tank B4 trying?

On the bird front - possibly trying chicks would be ok as they are generally cheap and easy to get ( hope fully where you are as well) and you can cut them open and scent rats etc with the yolk if they do accept them.

What feeding methods have you tried?

    Thanks for your replies .

I just tried to fed then live and died mice and hamsters . I never tried any birds .

My friend recommend a substrate . I am now using dry moss mixed with wet moss about 3 : 7 .

How do you think about this mixture substrate ?

My friend said this substrate could makes them to borrowing in and hide inside and will be helpful to treat their stress .

I just wnat to know what you are think about this .

If this is not a material , I will change to aspen .

    thanks.
