    Tail sexing
OK, I know that sexing by tail shape/size is only a educated guess but would any one like to make a guess on my snake?
There is no place local to get her probed or popped, I do know someone who can probe for me but he lives too far just to get her sexed. I will try to meet up with him some times in the future as I need to learn how to probe myself. Until then, let the guessing begin :imslow:

Why waste your time on guesses? If your satified not knowing until you hookup with your freind why get your hopes up and find out its not what someone guessed? It is a nice looking snake though from what i can see :)

Female.... no.... male! Yep, that's my final answer.

(Unless it's a female, then I'll go with my first response.)

I'm the one everyone calls for reptile help in the area, for what little I know I'm still more informed then others.

I live near Spokane, Washington if there is a member close by who can teach me to sex it would be great:)

Here's a link to vets in WA that see "exotics". I'd phone around, ask who can sex your snake and what the costs are. You'll need to know a vet anyways, so this can be a way to meet one and find out the gender of your snake. If the vet isn't charging an office fee, then sexing should be only around $30.00 or less but each vet has their own fee structures.

    It doesn't work. Trust me.:D

I tail sexed an animal with a blockage because I didn't want to stress it with probing or popping. I figured it was a male.

It turns out that it was a female. She was probed by the vet when I brought her in for an exam to find out what the blockage in her was.

She has now passed the blockage and I am even more happy about it since unlike the male I thought I had, I now have a female to raise up.

I posted an inquiry on the Pets section of my local Craigslist and got some help sexing my corns a couple of months ago. It took about a week of asking, but finally someone answered.

BTW, how old is yours and how much does it weigh? Just curious. :P

Thanks for the link, I've already spoken to most of the vets around that will see exotics and I don't think I would trust any of them. I'll keep checking though.

I never thought about using craigslist, I don't know if I would trust some random person to probe my snake.

You'd be surprised. All the people that replied to my request for help with sexing were breeders. Personally, I'd trust a breeder--even a fairly new one--over a vet for probing. The guy that finally probed my snakes for me turned out to be a fellow CS.com member. I bought a rack from him and he let me bring my snakes along for probing.

I've read a few messages from Kathy Love in which she states that probing isn't as hard as people think, and that newbies can do it easily without injuring snakes. You're probably quite capable of doing it yourself. You have years of snake experience (I gather from comments you've made) and you are able to separate 40-something T spiderlings into their own vials without squishing them. I'm pretty sure you'd have a gentle enough hand with the snake probe. :P

Sometimes the spurs on the males tend to be longer than the spurs on females, but unless you have one or the other sex to compare it too, it's kinda hard to tell. I'm guessing male from your first pic, but I would still definately probe him/her.

First off, bring roses, chocolate, and a teddy bear. Take "shim" out to a nice candle lit romantic dinner. I prefer Italian and make sure there is a guy in a funny outfit playing the violin. Bust out your best lines, and do your best to get invited back to the tub. Only then will you know for sure!:P

I have considered trying myself, I mean if the probe won't go in I wouldn't force it but I wouldn't know if it its a girl or if I'm just doing it wrong.

Oh, it was 140 some spiderlings:)

 Good grief, woman! I was impressed before when I thought it was 40. But 140??? Wow! I'd have spiders all over my house if I tried to do that.

Try probing it yourself. It would take a pretty special kind of idiot to FORCE a probe.

You sound like one of those people who buys a bird from me and then is afraid to clip its wings. :D Know what I say? Just do it! :carrot:

Of course this encouragement is coming from a girl that has never probed a snake herself............

hey! i just remembered.... when i was little (i lived in kelso)there was a guy that came around to schools and fairs and stuff. he was called the Reptile Man. he had all kinds of herps. i'm pretty sure he was based out of eastern wash. but i can't remember where. maybe you could track him down. if he's still around. he's a really cool guy though and very knowledgeable. i'd trust him!:)

I'm in North Idaho so the reptile man would be way too far for me to track down. I did find a vet who will tech me to probe for $15, I'm going to try and get in next week.

A guy at my pet store checked mine for me. he just squeezed him a little below his vent (tail-side) and his dual pistols popped right out.

This is not safe advice to give as it is possible to not know when the probe has gone far enough. It is possible to run the probe to far and ruin the animal.I recommend having someone show you and practice then.
