I have a pair in my indoor pond. They are not nearly as big as the one in the pics but they are growing fast. Mine are about a foot or so now. when I bought them about a year ago they were only about 5-6"s. They are just starting to get a little of their adult color.
John, what area of florida do you live in? I have been wanting to catch a big pair of pea:cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: and try to keep them alive so I could put them in my pond for a while. I am in Ocala though and I don't know how easy it to get a couple of ten pound fish all the way up here without it dieing. Do you know where the most northern area in FL that the pea:cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: can be caught is?

Re: Im Back...
LOL, I guess when you add an "s" to peacock it gets filtered????

Re: Im Back...

Re: Im Back...
Heys guys,
We do take people out all the time... If your ever in the area give me a ring and we can set up a fishing trip!
You can eat the Peacock and the Snakehead, but i dont eat anything from the canals down here... Tarpons are not for eating, unless your a shark then they are great lol
I know a spot where we can catch some 1-2lb fish that you could make it home with... You are better off with smaller fish though. Palm beach is as far north as i have seen them.

I think the ones I have now are close to 1-2 pounds. I am looking for something massive. My pond is in my snake room. It's 10'x10'x2' deep so I am hoping to get a big pair and see if I can get them to spawn.

I bet you don't have shedding issues with all the water in there!:D Any pictures of that setup?

Re: Im Back...
Awesome pics.
There was a show on cable hear called Record Hunters or something like that. It was a couple guys who go around the world looking to break various fish records. One episode they were going after moster Peacock Bass in what I think was South America. They did land some huge fish but no record breakers.
One of my dreams is to go Tarpon fighing. I fish about 4 nights a week for largemouth but never got a chance to fish for Tarpon.
Those snakeheads have a bounty on their heads here around Boston. They are not a native species here and they pose a huge danger to the native fish around here. They are popping up all over the place all of a sudden.
Great pics man.

Well, that should work for some larger ones! If you want to come down we can get them! Lots of them around right now. Get my # of my website and let me know when you want to catch some! I have a live well that we can get them to my house with and you can use 5 gal buckets to get them home.

Nice 7.1 lb Snakehead

If you are ever in the area, give us a ring we go Tarpon fishing all the time!
Snakeheads really arent as bad as they say (or at least not down here) We have bountys for them too, and FWC wants us to kill them but we let them be. I think they are more fun to catch than any freshwater (and most saltwater) fish and much less destructive to our natual fauna than Peacock Bass and all the other fish FWC let loose in our waters! In most studies they found that 60% of prey found in their stomachs were crawfish... not bass. Peacock Bass eat everybody lol!

Re: Im Back...
That's one big snakehead you caught.
Maybe that one's parent came from Thailand lol

Thanks! It my third largest, my biggest was 8.6lbs and then 8lbs... I think all the ones here parents came from Thailand :D You eat them in thailand right? How are they?
-
Re: Im Back...
We all in Thailand eat them lol But we eat different kind, not the bigger one, we eat the smaller kind of snakehead. The bigger one got too strong smell in their meat.
The best way to eat is deep fry whole fish(gutted first of course) then boil it in a sour&spicy soup like Tom Yum. Serve in a boiling deep bottom plate...or something like that.
We also eat the baby of snakehead fish. We boil a soup and put some kind of vegetable in the soup, Then put the live tiny baby snakehead, when the soup is very hot, the baby fish will swim inside the vegetable...and what you'll eat is a vegetable with cooked fish inside. However, not everyone eat this dish though...I know I don't.
Sorry if this post has nothing to do with BP lol
