those Dummies
I was just at super pet for a mouse...finally they have some balls in the store. They have two. And you guessed it, theyre in the same damn tank . I used to respect that manager...

Re: those Dummies
have you tried to educate him? Many people still have the old mentality that more than one in a tank is okay.

Re: those Dummies
Its a pet store, so its supposed to be temporary.

Re: those Dummies

Re: those Dummies
You arent going to find too many pet shops that are going to be selling one ball python at a time, all the time. They are a very popular pet, and to have their BP tank empy would be a costly mistake for business. It would also be extremely "spacey" to have a seperate tank and extras for every single snake, lizard, ect they carry.
A pet store is a very temporary condition, and with proper heat and lots of hides, the babies should be okay. Unfortunatly, too many shops out there lack this aspect of bp care :(

No - only put them together for the purpose of breeding, not for permanent housing.

Re: those Dummies
If I were you I'd change the word "cheapest" to "most economical" :D :P
And the answer probably depends on what kind of snake.

Re: those Dummies
i think the sentiment is great, but i don't think it's worth getting so worked up about it in this case. if it were a permanent situation yes, but barring the fact that many pet stores either don't know or don't care... even if they did, unless they had a great rack system (where the everyday impulse buyer couldn't see the animals) then it wouldn't make any sense business wise. it sucks that impulse buyers and the unwillingness to figure space better come into play at all, but in the end, it is still just a business for most people, especially when most shops seem to base how they keep their reptiles on how they keep fish

Re: those Dummies
I know I don't have a lot of first hanf BP knowledge yet, but with my previous experience with various lizards, young ones can be housed together safely as they have not matured and developed territorial behavior. Even multiple species (assuming same environement) can be kept together in some cases while young. It's when they get older that it is best to seperate, especially males. Female lizards, even as adults, can usually be kept together.
I am still not sure how well this translates to BP's or snakes in general so I will defer to the experts here until I have my own experiences.
However, at the very least, you'd have to take each snake out to feed in a seperate area.

Re: those Dummies
There is only one pet store here that houses snakes properly, perfect temps, humidity, only thing they lack is hides due to size, but when you have close to 500 snakes, some as long as 10-15 feet, space is hard to come by, but they really do try. Only place that has feeder mice, and the only place I would buy my mice from, they are a clean store, an amazing store....whose employees know wtf they are doing, hell, they sex every animal they sell so you know what your getting.
