The most users EVER online

The most users ever online was 394 on 11-15-2006 at 04:59 PM. Come on, we can do better than this. I want this record shattered. I'm setting the date at:
June 1st, 2007, at 5:00 PM, EDT.

If you make it 7 PM EDT or later I can do it, otherwise I'll still be in school (I'm on PDT and don't usually get home until about 4 PM PDT).

Be nice to shatter that record, but that record (i believe) was set by about 60 members online, 50 guests online, and the rest Yahoo! Spider bots...those stupid things run completely over forums....one forum i run is constantly being over run by spider bots :mad:

yes that's another term.

They're called "Spiders" because...well we're on the "web"...and they crawl from site to site to site to site picking up links....one of the ways search engines rank web sites is by how many web sites are linked to it. The more web sites that are linked to one web site, the more legitimate it probably is.

Google bots will usually have one or two on forums at once...but Yahoo! has a bajillion. It was a while back when that record was set and if memory serves, Matt (Smulkin) blocked like one IP address and they ALL left....so no there was never ~400 unique users online at the same time....damn..bubble buster :oops:

so, how many members are there???

I've never seen more than 100 users logged in at the same time. of course, you don't have to be a member to browse, so there's always a lot of guests just browsing around reading up.

We have a registered user base of about 4000 if I remember right

yep...almost 4k...but, people come and people go...

Says 4,800 on the main front page?


No idea how that translates into actual users however. **shrugs**

I'm game. But I think you'd have better luck setting the time much later. Say, 10pm eastern/EDT? That means everyone (or at least many more people) from the east coast to the west coast have arrived home from work and may be done doing whatever it is they do after work.

well maybe everyone should just leave the page open all day? better chance of sucess.

I'm shampooing carpets on a 90 plus degree day in the upstairs - with little cross breeze! I'd use ANY freakin excuse to take a break at this point. *falls over in a faint, smelling of carpet shampoo and sweat....umm if I expire, please for gawd's sakes don't let me die on those clean carpets!!!!!!!!*
