Longest BP you have seen?

I honestly havent seen many over 5 feet.

What about you?

Well a guy who popped in a few months ago said his was 18 feet and laid close to 100 eggs. But since I have never seen it, I would say in the 4.5 foot range

In person...my 50" male.

i have a female who, last measured over a year ago was approximately 60 inches long. i suppose she is the longest bp that i have seen in person, but i've seen many at shows that were good sizes but it's not like they were stretched out next to a tape measure. :P

Just under 6'. A local breeder has her - a huge 3600+ gram Ball. :snake:

Someone here posted a pic of one that was pushing 6k grams. Was it Steve who posted the pic?

Adam has some big girls as well, I haven't seen the snakes, but I have seen the pics!

I'm just curious, but are there any tricks to stimulate growth if, say, I wanted my gal to get on the big end of the spectrum aside from the regular husbandry requirements. I know cooler temps stunt growth, but would slightly warmer tempts along with more frequent feedings cause more growth in length instead of just girth?

Not necessarily. Genetics play the biggest role in how big they can actually grow. Feeding them more often may just lead to a fast.

i was thinking as much. overfeeding ends in an obese/fasting snake... i was just wandering if their were any "tricks to the trade" to induce more growth lengthwise

yes, but to my knowledge the snake gets "backed up" and to make up for it the snake will fast for awhile so it's system can catch up with the amount of food he/she's taken in, which isn't incredibly healthy compared to a constant manageable meals. Also the snake could get overweight, and nothing good comes from obesity no matter what species.

I was just hoping there would be some trick to rasing the snakes metabolism while feeding it more than normal so as to keep both of those side-effects from becoming a problem and hopefully induce growth.

I would think that their ultimate topout length would be determined genetically. I would think that powerfeeding would lead to obesity and food refusal. :)

Plus if I did that my bp would get fat, lazy, hog the remote, and will not wanna go with me on the morning jog. ;)

Keep the snake at a warmer temperature and will speed up its metabolism. This may also cause increased aggression.

increased aggression? who lied to you?

No one lied to me it was personal experience, the a/c broke at work and temperatures rose to 99-100 degrees at one point. That day I was bit by various reptiles that never have bit in the past or even struck at anyone. One ball python, one corn snake, and one schneider skink.

My Ozzy is just shy of 5' but he is a slim built guy :)

I have seen a few of Adam's huge females. He has one he told me he has had since I think '98 and she is huge. Her head is almost as big as my hand( the palm ), very thick body. Biggest in terms of girth I have ever seen.

In all fairness that might have been caused by the stress of almost being cooked don't you think?

100* is way hotter than I would ever suggest anyone keep a BP at. Just remember, that was not just the hot spot. 100* ambient temps are nothing to play with.

One that is pretty close to 6 feet long. She's a HUGE old WC girl.

Our biggest female BP is the biggest I've ever personally seen but I'm sure not the biggest around. Brannagh is about 3,200 grams and almost as long as I am tall (I'm 5'1"). I would think genetics play a huge role in their ultimate mature size and that simple good husbandry with consistent and appropriate feeding will support that growth potential.

I never seen these in person, but there are big ball pythons.

My male is pushin 4'8'' and is a slim guy too, only like 1700 grams ish, but eats great, no parasites (internal or external) so i was wondering if males are often slimmer than would be expected?

Males are slimmer than females usually. I think all way around are smaller than their female counterparts.

Today I just saw a 6ft female. I'm 6ft1 and I'm able to call this majestic animal a monster! I have a 6ft boa, but I guess I never really figured just how huge a ball wouold be at that length since they're so heavy-bodied, it was just absolutly amazing! The head had to be as big around as a softball! I have pics, but sadly they're on my cell and I don't have the necessary software to upload.

I'm just in complete awwe...

btw: the guy said he fed young bunnies.... a little overkill maybe?

open a photobucket account they have it where you can send the pics to your account right from your phone. Ive done this with my phone.
