Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Finally got my first 'Jungle' ball. It's unfortunate that it didn't live. I had 4 eggs from a het pied to a normal. I Hatched out three possible het pieds but this one died in the egg.... My apologies to anyone who may be grossed out by this, but I thought he had pretty interesting color and pattern, and figured that some people might be interested in seeing it.
Premature babies will often have funky looking patterns, but usually not this extreme or this colorful. It seems that every year, someone will hatch out a live baby that has these same colors and patterns but otherwise is perfect. These have been given the name 'jungle balls' or 'classic jungles'. They don't appear to be a genetically heritable trait and as far as I know, nobody has been able to figure out why it happens... But it's still pretty interesting none-the-less.

I'm sorry that happened... Would have been a gorgeous baby.
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Man that sucks. Jungles even though the genetics are unknown are so amazing i love them... Thats really too bad.
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
I assume the healthy babies didn't have the jungle pattern?
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Shame , would have been stunning if retained the colour
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
awww.. so sorry for your loss. that really is some beautiful coloring.
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Jason, the other three look pretty normal, though one has a slight ringer look. I'll get some pics up after they've shed.

Sounds good bro! I'm glad the other three are healthy...unfortunately some babies just aren't designed to make it.

Sorry your baby died, it's gorgeous!
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Sorry for your loss. That is a screaming pattern. Good luck with the other ones.:)
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
sucks, that would be awsome if you could learn from this on anything from how jungles are made, or any type of incubation possibe causes. Sorry man that would have been a screamer!!!

Awe, I am sorry about that. What do you think made this happen; is it caused by anything?

Again Edward...its Jason.
That baby obviously somewhere along the lines in development was not strong enough or possibly lacking something to keep it from developing into a healthy baby ball python.
These deformities/malformations happen keep the animal from developing normally, hatching out, and living a long thriving life. Its natures design, and things like that unfortunately pop up. Thats what I mean....is that a good enough explanation for you?

Awww... poor baby. I'm sorry it did not make it:(
Re: Non-hatchling jungle ball (caution graphic pics)
Thanks all, the snake did have other problems as well, it had an odd shaped head and the eyes were not well formed. One side was a little slash of an eye and the other side was a tiny pinhole so it's probably best that it didn't make it after all. Though I would really like to hatch one out someday with those colors and pattern. I've had full term or nearly full term deaths before and while some of those did have somewhat unusual patterns, they weren't even close to this.
I do plan on breeding the parents together again next year 'just in case' though I really don't expect anything to come of it. The other jungle balls that I know about were all pretty much just random chance.
There really wasn't anything different about this egg then any of the others. There were only 4 eggs all stuck together. This one was stuck between two others that hatched just fine, there were no major temp fluctuations and conditions were identical for all 4 eggs. Mom was a captive hatched girl that I got three years ago from Sean Bradley and the Dad was a het Pied I got from Ralph Davis. Both are first time parents. Sometimes stuff just happens I guess.
