    Lemon, VPI, Graziani?
Ok, I'm sure there's someone that can explain the difference in the different lines of pastels. What are the more obvious traits that makes each one that line? Also what are the subtle traits that you can look at closer and see?

I know this is easier to tell with the higher quality snakes, but what about the others that aren't as high quality?

From what I've seen, Lemon Pastels are bright yellow with a lot of contrast. That's why I bought Lemons :) Graziani Pastels usually have tons of blushing, but they can have this brownish color. I have not seen enough VPI Pastels to tell you anything about them. After all, all pastels can be very yellow and have very much blushing. So just buy the most beautifull Pastel you can find. It doesn't matter if it's a Lemon, VPI or Graziani.

And don't forget the blonde pastels also - from what little I've seen of them, they seem to hold their color very well as well!

Mike's in love with the Blonde Pastels. Once he saw one of Eric Erb's blondes that was it for him. :)

I'm not really looking to buy. I have a female and male pastel. I just want to be able to identify them if I see pics and know what line mine are from. After all if I make babies, and the buyer wants to know, I should be able to tell them at least what line the sire and dame are from.

You can't be 100% sure what line they are just by looking at them...

Did you ask the breeder what line they were? That's your best bet! :)

I would but it was a weird deal where I got the snake through the shop, but they just sold it. I think it was a partnership kind of deal where the breeder I went to loaned his male/female to the other guy or vise versa.

I just was hoping that there was a way to actually be able to tell. I have "The Complete Ball Python" but it really doesn't break it down like I wanted.

Sounds like there really is no sure way to know. After all the breeder could just tell you what you want to here.

    Thanks anyway.

Hey Rick, could you post pix of yours and maybe someone can "guess" what line? I think that would be interesting. I had a male that was "classic" Graziani, but the Lemon female I have has a ton of blushing... I always heard that Lemons were very yellow and strong/solid black. But like I said, my lemon has a ton of blushing!?!?! Maybe everyone could post examples of their pastels and their bloodline?

You mean a pastel show-off thread? ;) I leap at the opportunity to show Auryn off :D I really need new pictures of him, but was holding off until he had decided to eat for me again--and he has--so likely I'll get some new ones soon! Until then--here's one of my favorites of him:

Auryn is a Lemon line pastel (acquired directly from NERD)

I'm not sure how "typical" he is of Lemons. He does have some blushing (I wouldn't say a "ton"), some nice yellow and really sharp black markings. You should post your snake's pics up, as L suggested and people can take a stab at it--but I wouldn't take anyone's opinions as fact ;)

Here's my male Bell line. He's cleaner and lighter than my female Graziani, but she's still young so we'll see how her color develops. I like this guy's color, but he's my only mouse eater and usually only live still. He's taken f/t rat pups on 2 occasions, but he's stubborn.

Here's some pics of my Pastel Apollo, from Nerd's Lemon line. He's not from nerd directly, but a descendant of one. He was a bit more orange than his brother that I saw, but he was too sweet to not get ^^

Ok I'll post up some pics of my little ones.

First the Pastel Female that is in question. Again I'm not sure what line this one is. It's the one I got from the breeder.

    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/SL730273.jpg

Now my Male Pastel, who I know is from the Graziani Line. He still hasn't eaten for me so I'm not going to bother him other than a quick snap shot.
    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/SL730277.jpg

And now for both of my little girls. You've already met the pastel.

    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/SL730286.jpg

Maybe someone can tell me what line the first one is from. Based on the above pics, she almost looks like a Bell line. I'm not really sure. Also, my camera doesn't take really good close ups. Maybe it's just me not knowing how to work it properly too.

Laooda, your Biancha is hot! A very nice example of a pastel.

Here are two yearlings pastels of mine. The first was produced by Don Kaye Reptiles and is from a blond x super. The second is a blond produced by me from a blond x normal clutch last year. I am very partial to the blonds and lemons.

Oh Alice, I LOVE that Blond/super cross. Very sharp! Looks like Blonds hold their color well... The one you produced is just smokin'! I just love a pretty pastel! But have noticed that there is such a diversity to their appearances... makes me love em' even more!

    Re: Lemon, VPI, Graziani?
My personal preference is the Graziani line. I like the bright yellow of a lemon as much as the next person, but Grazis have that awesome blushing usually.. they do top off into "browned-out" adults sometimes, but I just love their look for some reasno, they click for me.. explains why I bought one.

ok, almost relevant question. rather than just supers, pastels can make bumble bee's too. Is there a noticeable difference in the On the bumble bee when you use high quality pastels from different lines?

I would imagine that the brightness and cleanliness of the bee would be effected. I'm strictly guessing... I'm sure a Bee breeder can answer for sure!
Great question though! I assume Bee's vary in white sides from the Spider parent, so I would think the color tone would be influenced by the Pastel? Wow, I think I just said the same thing twice. :rolleye2:

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. Guess we need a breeder with experiance in that field to get in on this one.

A few breeders keep blonds. I hope to have at least 2 clutches this season. Fingers crossed.
