off-feed; not fun..!
Well, little SoCo has decided that eating is not a fun thing.. he has refused his last two meals. I hate when this happens; I guess that my snakes have been spoiling me in the recent past by always wating (except for the breeding girls of course.) Just venting.. anyone else singing the nonfeeder blues? :rolleye2:

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
Well... I've decided to fast (until I get my lazy butt off to the store)... And I'm most DEFINITELY singing the non-feeding blues, or at least my tummy is... lol. Ehh... fine I'll go...
::sending hunger vibes towards SoCo::

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
WHAT!?! you mean for the last six hours he hasn't eaten anything? OH NO
anyway, yeah I have a large female who is perfectly fat and decided she'd rather not eat and just be really restless for a few weeks. I'm not nervous for her, I just hate when they don't eat, even though I know they're fine I still just really want them to listen to me and just do what I ask... *come oooonnnn guysss (whines)* I think I started a thread whining a month ago or so too when my other female took some time off, and my female boa did too. I just want them to eat when I offer it, is that so hard? haha

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
I have one that hasn't eaten since 12-14-06  but hes only lost 200 grams and is still over 1100 grams. It was my fault I couldn't get sm rats last year and was feeding him med rats every week.. Still a good shape and very healthy but just not hungry.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
Yeppers know all too well...My pastel boy who decided to start breeding very late into the season quit eating at the beginning of the season...his last meal was 11/1/06 :(
But on a good note he has only lost about 50 grams...so I am not worried.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
I have a girl that hasn't eaten regularly for me since I got her a few months ago. She's not as fat as I'd like her to be, but still not in bad shape... I guess I just have to wait.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
The Emperor was off his feed since November until about four weeks ago until I jump started it for him. He has become quite the piggy since.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
didn't include before cuz he's not a ball, but he needs love and mention too, one of my candoia males has not eaten since october... not worried yet though since he's still looking good.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
Auryn hasn't eaten for the last 4 weeks. I'm trying to get him to switch from mice to rat pups and he turned his nose up 3 weeks in a row. I'm out of rat pups, won't have any for another week and a half, and hope that he's feeling more hungry by then. I'm going to pick up some rat pups and used mouse bedding and see if I can't get him fooled.
He ate every week for me like clockwork before that, though...I'm sure if I had been offering mice instead of rat pups these last few weeks, he would have had at it.
Hope everyone's non-feeders are feeding for them soon!

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
Oh how well I know the frustration  I have a 10 month old that has learned how not to grow just stay the same. This gal will eat a medium mouse and wont touch another for 3 to 4 weeks and then again 1 mouse, this process just keeps repeating itself over and over. She has been at 270 grams now for 3 months, Im so ready to pull my hair out if I wasnt already losing it. Her sister is at 340 grams. Oh well I guess thats part of it. Jimi

Argh; I guess I am not alone in this department. :)

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
I've got 3 out of 4 snakes on strike.
I want everyone eating F/T. 2 of them have only eaten F/T after one live, thought not consistently. They've been off for almost 6 weeks but haven't lost much weight. I have to continue to resist getting them live chow again!
The other one on strike has always eaten F/T but had been getting finicky lately before stopping altogether. He's been off for 4 weeks.
My BP (9.5 months old, 38", 915g) was a great eater, but I think I fed him too often and he went on strike a couple of months ago. He came back after 3 weeks off, ate for 2 weeks, went on strike for another 2 weeks, and ate for me last Tuesday. I'll feed him next Sunday and get him back on schedule. Lately he's been more interested in "playing" than eating.

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
I have one that's been on a strike for about a month..I'd have to look it up and then the other who hasnt eaten since 10.03.06...and one who started the same time and has only eaten twice *sighs*

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
So glad to hear we are not alone! We bought my daughter her new bp in early April- it didn't eat for a couple of weeks, so breeder suggested a FT small rat instead. Well, it must have been mislabelled, because it was HUGE (later after we bought more we realized what a "small rat" should look like). And she ate it! And that was the only thing she has eaten for us. She just skipped last night's feeding which makes 3 weeks now, but she is forgiven, because I noticed her eyes were cloudy. YAY! Time to up the humidity! Darn thing better eat after she sheds!
What I hate most about this is throwing all these expensive dead rats away!
The breeder had offered to exchange her but my daughter has fallen in love :D

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
Yeah its pretty much a typical thing with Balls but not all of them. I have one that has never missed a meal in 2 years even through shedding, to bad they cant all be like that. Jimi

As long as the rodent has not been sitting out for a long time, I have found no trouble with freezing them again and trying another time. I usually only do this once or twice, mostly because of the tissue breakdown that can occur. It's really nasty if the rat explodes when they constrict!

Have you made the suggested changes to your enclosure yet? A newborn baby should NOT be fasting. Usually husbandry related. Fix what's wrong and he should eat for you.

Mine must not be typical then. :)
I rarely have fasts - I have missed weeks here and there, but not full out fasts from any of them. But I do also feed smaller meals weekly (small/small rats).

Re: off-feed; not fun..!
You must be doing something right :) I feed my male large mice and he will only take one if he takes it at all. He feeds on average once a month but I offer weekly. Newly hatched corns are easier to get started on feed than my male Ball. He just lays around 90% of the time like my other balls the only time I see them active is when I hold them then they want to explore. Oh well it must just be boredom. My corns and Boas will be out either exploring their tank or trying to get out but the balls just lay there. Always in their hides. If I wasnt so attached to them Id get rid of them and get something else, but they are my babies. Jimi
