    shed question
ok so about 3 days ago my ball was definitely in shed. blueish, dull color, glazed over eyes, the works. So today I open the cage to check on her and her eyes are back to their normal black, and she's shiney agian but I cant find the skin. I pulled EVERYTHING out and dug through ALL the bedding. It's like the shed never happened. Or was aborted. I dont get it... :confuzd:

sheds don't happen in 5 minutes... that and they lose the blue right before the shed, so your shed hasn't happened yet. if you have your conditions right then it should happen on its own

by "they lose the blue right before the shed" you're saying that they look fine and THEN they shed? What, like, the next day? She shed with me once before but I basically left her alone during that time. This is the first time I've been really paying attention to whats going on. It just struck me as strange.

give her a day or 2. That always happens...they go blue, dull, back to normal, then they shed :)

    yeah what he said
shed time will fluctuate so it's hard to say whether it will be a day or not, but it shouldn't be long once they clear up.

...Right after I posted this I picked her up and she started rubbing her face on my shoulder. I set her down and she just shed. That was quick. -lol-

That's good, what I was going to say was basically what they said just a little more, after the eyes go blue for a few days, they go back to normal and then normally within another 2 or 3 days they shed, although I do have one male, who goes blue, then the blue goes away, and it takes him about a month to shed, even though his conditions are perfect. **shrugs** He's an oddball though. Whenever I have him out and around my neck, he always tries to go in my mouth.

I'm a little put off by the fact that my snake was trying to rub her dead skin all over me. XD.

...I always wanted to be a rock. -lol-

Basically everything you need to know about the shed process....

As yes it's completely normal that they will appear to have not shed, then shed about 24-48 hours after that return to a "normal" appearance. Sounds like your snake is right on track. :)

    Re: shed question
I wonder when ours will shed? She hasn't eaten for 3 weeks and she's new so we've kind of been leaving her alone, but last night she was out and about and ONE eye is cloudy and the skin around her mouth looks a little "crinkly". So I wonder if she's just coming into shed or just about to shed? Hmmm. Any way to tell? I did increase humidity.

    Only one eye?

It might be helpfull if you could get a pic of that area (fairly close up and clear if possible) so tjhat the experts around here could have a look and tell you what they think. :)

Thanks DD- sorry I didn't respond quickly- I had to get some good shots. These are the best I came up with. I am sure it is a shed. We also noticed her belly was a bit pink while we were taking the shots. Here is the right eye:

Here is the left eye, the cloudier one:

    Here is the pink belly:

What do you think? Am I wrong in thinking the nose skin looks kind of crispy and ready to shed? Thanks in advance!

The nose looks to me like dried mucus to me?

The pink belly looks like pre-shed.

    Hi,

I can't tell the difference between the eyes.

The belly definately looks sheddish to me and the nose might also be "scuffed" from him digging in the substrate?

Are there any other signs of a possible R.I?

One note worth remind - sometimes shedding snakes get a whistle in their nose from the process so don't freak if you hear the odd whistle but don't see any mucus or open mouthed breathing or anything. :D

I panicked like a headless chicken when one of mine did that to me once.

EEK! Does mucus always = an RI?

Her breathing is okay, no clicking, popping, wheezing, or heavy breathing unless we scare her (she's still new to being handled so sometimes will take a big breath when we first pick her up or move suddenly). She has never gaped or anything...I'd go check now but she's in my daughter's bedroom and I don't want to wake her up. I'll wipe it with a wet cloth in the morning and see if it wipes off or if it is indeed skin.

Dr. Del- she's on newspaper in a 20 long tank...temps as recommended here and I raised humidity to around 70%. She really did some furniture rearranging last night, though....a couple of rough, heavy ceramic hides...

Thanks! Ooohhhh, now I'm gonna worry about her all night.....I didn't realize having a bp would make me such a worrywart!

    Re: shed question
Sorry - didn't mean to worry you, but better to worry you and you get it treated if it IS mucus. And yes - I would be taking the snake into a vet if you find that's what it is to get it treated.

    BUT, it could be nothing!

    Re: shed question
Yes, definitely! I never would have guessed RI if you hadn't mentioned it, so thank you! If it is mucus, I will call the vet first thing.
