Guess what I got for Mother's Day??
Well, I don't have the actual present yet. I was told that I am going to be a grandma:eek: My 17 year old and her boyfriend are expecting their first child December 1 . I have to admit I was a tad bit shocked and freaked...to say the least:P But now that the initial shock has warn off I have to admit that I am very excited:carrot: Look out Babies R Us :D

Oh I love shopping for babies. I would always volunteer to go with my aunt to go shopping for her baby when he was little. The stuffed animals are sooooo soft. I want an entire bed set made out of that material. I don't think I'd ever get out of bed. :carrot:

And congrats at becoming a grandmother. From someone who was spoiled by thier grandmother, milk and cookies are the way to go.

Well, there really is nothing else to do but support them. What's done is done. Her gram on her dad's side said some pretty terrible things to her which really p!@#ed me of. They don't need someone screaming and yelling . They need support and lots of advice LOL on raising this child properly. My daughter has a good head on her shoulders and is a very loving and caring person....She is going to be a GREAT mom:D

Yelling and saying terrible things never solves anything. You can't undo anything, so supporting is the greatest expression of love you can give your daughter right now. You are a wonderful mother for being so supportive. :D

    Congrats! :)

Like others have said, what's done is done. The only thing I would be concerned about would be the boyfriend. Do you think he'll stick around? I know a lot of times, in situations like this, the father runs off. I don't think it'd be a bad idea to have a chat with him.
    Just saying. ;)

I think that it's great that you're supporting her. :)
Being negative and nasty about it is not going to help anyone. :(

Congratulations, you are awesome for supporting her. Something tells me you will be an awesome grandma too :)

Speaking from personal experience here, I had a child at 18. My mom was livid about it at first and I was in a bad situation, bad relationship, was terrified and didn't know what to do. I didn't have my moms support at first, we rarley even spoke. After a few months went by, she realized that what was done was done. After that we got really close and she gave me all the support she possibly could plus some, that made a world of difference for me. She will need that support from you more than anything else in the world.
My dad, and his sisters said the most aweful things to me. Calling me all sorts of names and telling me that me and the child were going to hell. I know how that feels, and it hurts. Tell her not to let those things get to her, it sounds like she will be a great mother.

My best wishes to you and your daughter, I hope she has a wonderful pregnancy and a very healthy baby.

Awww Lisa congrats! Even if the timing might be a bit "off", any new life is a blessing in my books! I think it's completely wonderful that you are supportive of your daughter (personally I can't see there being another way to be but some folks act pretty badly in these situations I guess). Here's hoping for a wonderful pregnancy and delivery! If your daughter is able to access the services of a licensed midwife, I'd recommend that. My last delivery was in the hospital with a midwife attending and it was the most wonderful experience. They really are so different than doctors and take the attitude that this is a completely natural event.

    I had the same thought.

Congrats to the Mother-to-be!! Have a kid that young will be challenging, but at least when they graduate from high school she'll be 36 and still in the best years of her life.

We had our kids later in life. Last one was born when were were 39! So when she's 18 we'll be 57. Our middle kid (7) is into baseball. It's getting harder to keep up with him. I wish we had them earlier.

I'm not a big Madonna fan, but "Poppa don't preach" was right on the mark. And eventhough I am Jewish, there is a story of a great man that once said:

    Quote:

“He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”
We must remember that when we accept people for what they are, who they are, without criticism, they will flourish. And, we will reap the reward of their success.

I pray that you (zekesmom) will have the strength to provide warmth and comfort to your child while ignoring the insensitivities of others. And that strength will infuse your child with confidence to marshall her resources for a successful transition into motherhood.

God's blessing upon you and your child!

Re: Guess what I got for Mother's Day??
Akiva, what a wonderful post. Truer words were never said!

I was the product of a teen pregnancy and ended up being raised by my grandparents. I bless them everyday for standing by me and loving me as their own. Back in 1961 having a teenager pregnant was a huge deal. At least today it's not as bad as it used to be on these young girls and their families. It's still a huge responsibility though and they need their parents more than ever before. I personally cannot imagine refusing to help if one of my girls (or my sons) faced this situation. I'd rather they had more time before becoming parents but still...to reject them? I just never got that.
