Granite?

Re: Granite?
Do you have a pic of the belly?
You might want to check out this http://www.nextworldexotics.com/hggr.htm .

Re: Granite?
i would say no, most granites have more pronounced speckling, broken neck stripes, light heads, etc.
don't really know until you breed it and find out though:D

Re: Granite?
I did check out the next world exotics link and everything the granite should have from that site, mine does. Clear belly, break in the neck stripe, speckling on the sides, the only thing that doesn't match completely is the faded head. Although the head is lighter then the other normals I was looking at, not by a lot. It is faded though, specially back towards where the head and neck meet.
I'll try and get a picture of the back of it's head to show ya though :)

Re: Granite?
With some of our bps the fading on the head can develop over time. Your's may do the same, looks like you might have a granite. Always hard to tell from pics though, as apposed to standing there looking at it in person! :)

Re: Granite?
I tend to be very particular when I describe things... I would call it a "granite type" but not a granite. :P

Re: Granite?
It definitely has the speckling but I don't see the head blushing or dorsal stripes that most have. Maybe something new?

Curious what you mean by the dorsal stripes? Do you mean the break in the neck pattern or something else? Just curious because when I was comparing I was looking a lot at the next world exotics page and mine has everything the ones he talks about have, except the lighter head. He has a tiny bit of lightness on it, almost like a light spot, but not an entirely light head :(
Edit: From the website
There are many more variations, but they all follow the same rules.
1. Granite like speckling on the sides of the body
2. Break in the neck stripe
3. Faded head
Two things I look for.
1. Flames that start on the belly (Het Ivory like appearance )
2. Completely clear stomach
I will try to get more pictures of the different variations for you all and post them here.
Onyx has all but the head :( so here's hoping he'll prove out!

He doesn't have a ton, but he's got some in there, most of em ya cant see due to him being balled up while most of the pictures were being taken. If you look at the second picture you can see one of his flames, directly under the bend of his neck. I'll try and get better pictures. He ate for me so he has to wait a bit for pictures.

Re: Granite?
Holbeird,
Most of the granites I've seen have some type of striping going on like towards the lower half of the body.
Is that snake aggressive? Does it eat extremely well? These are a couple of the characteristics I've seen granites display. I've also heard they breed really early I know from personal experience that I bought a 650g 05' female in August feed her up real good and she was the first to drop eggs from me this year 7 of them all perfect. (My #1 clutch ever!) so I love granites
Help this helps?
If that snake isn't a granite no big deal there are tons coming over from africa and i'm sure you could find a nice one for a very good price with a little hunting

Re: Granite?
Yeah, I'm positive it's from Africa. I got it at a show even though I promised myself I wasn't gonna bring two snakes home ;-p The guy claims they're CB babies and that they've had a few meals in them, but with the numbers that he had and how early it is in the season, there's just no way :-p
He's not aggressive that I know of, but my wife said he did try and bite our roommate the day we got him, I didn't see it though.
He slammed the rat pink as soon as I dropped it in his tub :)
As far as the stripe on it's back, he's got a stripe on his back starting just above his vent and going down to his tail.
I dont know if he's a granite or not but we'll see. If he keeps eating as awesome as he is now, maybe sooner than I thought :)

Re: Granite?
you know what, it looks like a granite i saw a few posts ago. just surfin and i dont actually read, [i just look at the pretty pics :)] and i first thought it was a granite. hope it makes you feel more positive! :D

Re: Granite?
Yours has the granite speckling, but as mention above, lacks some of the other goodies that granites have. Here's what I'm talking about...
Here's cuestyle shot of the speckling

Full body
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...-cuestyle1.jpg
Belly shot...definitely different than a normal
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...-cuestyle3.jpg
Check out the head...the brown on the head is a distinctly different color than the black on its body

Hope this helps...

Re: Granite?
what else is it missing other then the brown head?

Re: Granite?
Here is a pic of my granite girl and you can see head color, break in neck pattern etc..
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...raniteGirl.jpg
Here is a pic of one my girls sitting on some eggs. You can see she has speckling on her and although she is not a granite the speckling was genetic and showed up on some of her babies, so don't be discouraged. Although she is not a textbook granite the speckling could still be genetic.

Re: Granite?
Personally I'd call it a granite even if it doesn't meet all of the criteria that someone else decided on. It's got the granite speckling and to me thats the main reason for calling them granites in the first place, not the head color or the belly pattern or whatever else. Sure, it's not as extreme as some but it's definatly there.
