Ball x Burm - Looks like it has been accomplished
It appears that someone in Germany may have actually produced the ball x burm hybrid that some people have been working on for some time.
    Crazy looking snake.
Burm pattern, BP head, but it looks like it may be a bit deformed due to the way the back part of the body is shaped.
The pictures have been posted online but I'm not sure if it's OK to link them here since it was on another forum.
If anyone is interested, I can PM you the link.

Derek...correct me if I am wrong but I believe the TOS allows links to other sites provided it is necessary to the topic of conversation in this thread? (and not being used to solicit membership)

So can he post it here for everyone?

Me too...but with that large mid-section you have to wonder how healthy this animal really is...not to mention since it was done by accident what is the likelihood we will see another. But I have my fingers crossed.

Thank you for waiting so patiently for confirmation it was o.k. to post the link jamesw.

    [/sarcasm mode]

Yes the link is fine to be posted as far as I know I just wanted to check you didn't have to join the forum to read it or anything first.

I don't think it looks unhealthy as such but I wonder if the swelling could be caused by a burmese size yolk in a small ball pythong sized belly?

And the fact there was also an albino produced in the same clutch just sounds completely odd to me.

As a personal thing it's a pretty enough snake but I wouldn't have tried to breed one myself - but it would be a boring life if we were all the same.

If you didn't want to get into the rules, then why did you say you didn't need confirmation about linking to the other forum? The linking of other forums is in the rules and the TOS were in question prior to you linking.

You know.... I joined this forum about 9 mths ago. I really really love it here. I know I really don't know any of you all that well, but I know that if I have a question or problem there are many knowlegable people here who will jump in to help me. I see the interaction between alot of you and realize how close some of you are and see through your posts how kind hearted you are.
SOOOOO....here is what I am coming to hate on this forum and it is something that seems to be happening more frequently....
I really hate all the bickering that is going on with new people and some not so new coming and making posts and then disprespecting everyone here and the rules.
If you are one of these people....why don't you take your ^%$$@#*^ talk and posts to some other forum and quit being !@$#^%*# and messing with a great thing that the people of this forum have going!
To all the "regular" members that know me... I sincerely apologize for this outburst.

I really don't like the hybridization of such vastly different species. You end up with an animal whose lifetime requirements are unknown, and whose health prospects are unknown. A lot of this goes on in the fish hobby, and it has always bothered me. I guess I'm a purist :P

Unfortunately this seems to be the fad. Look at all the strange dogs that are coming out lately. Labadoodle, Puggle, etc. We will have to watch and see if anything comes from this animal. :)

    100% totally agree.

I mean will it have the temperament of a ball or a burm? Hybrids are something I never really liked even in corn snakes ...

    Just my two cents. .

Just to play the Devil's advocate....

When people first started keeping ANY reptile.....they all had "an animal whose lifetime requirements are unknown, and whose health prospects are unknown." so I really don't see how that can be an issue if something 'new' is kept.

If animals can be 'hybridized' then they are not that vastly different....genetically speaking ;)

    On to my opinion...

One thing that bothers me is when hybrids are created instead of devoting more time to an originating species....Angolan pythons are an example. I see angolans being sold with the 'you can cross this with a ball python and create something cool' attitude. Why not just create more angolans? They are low in number in captivity, but people still feel the urge to tinker.

Other than that, I see no problem with hybrids as long as there is no possible chance that they can be released into the wild and people do not 'abuse' the ability to hybridize.

It is this need to tinker that drives up sales. If Angolans didn't produce something cool when bred to balls sales wouldn't be half what they are. Lets face it this is true with ball morphs people buy the crazy and odd stuff to see what it can do when bred to ....whatever. Like YB's when they first hit the scene it was wow kinda cool, "could be something cool" we'll sell them for 250.00 then ivory's popped out and bam! prices sky rocketed. Blurry balls??? Seen them on and off last year then no one wants to talk about them..

Tinkering to further understand the genetics of a species in the terms of pet trade is all good. Introducing the years of line breeding of one species to the years of breeding to another species is totally different. There needs to be more generations of this animal before we can fully understand the out come of its existence.

Nope. The Dwarf burms are pure. Not sure where they got them from but my guess is its just an isolated population of burm that stay smaller. Possibly an island local actually

I think the albino was the result of the 2 albino burms breeding and the burm/ball was the result of one of the albino burms breeding with the BP.

Since he housed 4 snakes in one cage, who knows what bred with what.
