    W00t! along with a wtf?
Whats the w00t for you ask? Well, my girl, just ate her second hopper mouse. As you all know I had trouble feeding her last time, had to turn the lights out and all that. This time, took her out, weighed her, put her back in her hide, dropped mouse in, BAM! attack from the hide, you go girl! Not even sure if it was done twitching when she started to eat it though. Now my male, he strikes fast and hard, then plays with the dead mouse for about 15 min then eats it. Im so proud of her! 61g is what she weighs in at now. :carrot: :D

Now, for the wtf part. So at the store I have the mouse and the hopper and im checking out and these two girls come up to me, a bit older, and ask if I am gonna feed those to something. So I said ya, I own two ball pythons. So the one asked why I dont feed them the dead ones and I explained about thawing them out, and that disgusted both of them and one agreed why I buy them live. The other, a bit of a snappy little B**ch, was like, why would you own something like that? whats the point? So I asked what she owns, and she said a german sheperd. So I asked why? She said it doesnt it eat live animals. Then she added that it did get out of its cage, ripped down her blinds, tore up all the wood on the frame of the door, and then took a dump on the shades it pulled down. I just smiled and paid and added the comment,

"Last I checked, my snakes dont poo on the floor, tear down the blinds, or rip up wood frames." and left.

My question, why do people feel they have a right to judge us cause we own a pet that eats other animals and have enough responsibility to do what is needed to be done and feed em?

I haven't encountered anyone who's reacted that way yet. I'll say this, though--I'm not a vegetarian myself, so I have no qualms with my PET eating meat ;)

Give me some med-rare steak any day of the week. :lick: I can understand why Auryn thinks mice are delicious! I like my red meat still kinda bloody myself ;)

    Hehe damn straight!

I want to strangle people like that sometimes. Often I find the people who fit into this category to be prissy teenage girls. I had an encounter like this before. I simply remarked my boa could eat her chihuahua and that seemed to be the end of it ;)

It's a sad fact we all have issues and preconceptions.

All the snakes I keep at the moment all eat F/T ( when they do eat, stroppy little madams) but if they didn't I would have no qualms about feeding live using the correct supervision.

I don't think they are intentionally "judging" as much as "not understanding" -If you asked them to look at the ingredients list of dog food and go forth and kill and mince the listed components I'm sure they would object just as hard.

Some people prefer not to think about these things - as long as they do not try and dictate what other people do to keep their own pets healthy I'm happy to allow them their delusions.

I feel obliged at this point to say the above is nothing more than my personal opinion.

    **edit**

And I would liike to remain neutral when it comes to arguing about how dumb the male of the species is. :P

    ** end edit**

Ive had similar experiences. One girl i work with almost cried when i talk about feeding my snakes but whatever. I explain it like this, if i along with many others do not do this in a controlled enviornment and ensure the safety of it, it will just happen in the wild...its life, the food chain...do you complain about eating steak or chicken or turkey on thanksgiving? i bet not :) Most of us eat animals ourselves... but hey oppinions are like :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:s, everybodies got one :) lol

    I have similar problems - Wipe it's b**t and polish it's horns and I'm a happy camper.

And, of course, when you're finished you can ride the rest home.

It's funny that most of those types don't even get that the burger they are eating was once a living creature that somebody had to breed, raise up, send to slaughter and so forth. I swear they think meat just shows up wrapped in plastic on a nice tray at the grocery store.

Haha, that reminds me of a shirt I saw at Hot Topic this past weekend. It said "Meat is murder...yummy yummy murder". I'm thinking about getting it for Jeff even though talking tees are out this year. He doesn't care about that. He just bought one with the Betty Ford Clinic logo on it. :ohmygod:

My girlfriend loves cute furry things; things like rats. So for a while she wasn't too keen on my feeding them whole to my BP. She eventually came around and now very much enjoys watching the snake eat.

The first time she acutally watched, the snake constricted and my girlfriend yelled, "Look, she's hugging it!" Now that's what she always calls it. Whatever makes her feel better I guess. You still won't catch her handling the mouse before hand despite the fact it's already dead.

I have had similar experiences... When Gabe got sick, some people I'm close to at work knew about it. We were in a luncheon and someone asked me across the table how my snake was doing, and I said he would probably die. A nurse sitting a little further down heard this and said loudly, 'Well good, he should die,' and busted out laughing. That sent me right into tears. My coworkers shot her a dirty look but I just can't get over how cruel people can be. It's like if you don't "get it", that's fine, but have respect for those that do.

Heres my response to this issue..

My snakes are hypoallergenic, small, don't need to be house trained, don't need to be walked or petted. I don't need affection from my pets in order to get along in my day. Lastly regardless of how disturbed by my pets you may be your still curious. It may just be a snake to you but your still interested..

Many of the people that have this opionion that feeding a snake is wrong, dont always understand nature. They dont understand that their cute little kitty also plays a roll in the food chain. If there dog was out in the wild it would not be served kibbles n' bits in a pink bowl with its name on it. If one would actually see what there natarual diet is they wouldnt worry so much about my 4 foot snake's diet is.

I happen two own a golden retriever, she is wonderful. Always at my feet whenever she can be. with a big personality. But alot of the cuteness goes away when another dog comes around that she doesnt like. And she will crap every where exept where she is suppose to. that being said, If any one said that my snake didnt have personality, I would be enclined to break their face. My BP may not wag his tail when he sees me. He wont bark at intruders. but until you see his interacion with his own enviroment you wouldnt know unless you have reptiles your self.

Now I have said my piece. Tonight I will stop at the grocrey store and Pick up a big fat juicy tri-tip, some marinade, and a 12 pack of beer. BiG~PUN is BBQing TONIGHT! :taz: :carrot: :partyon: :pinkele:

    This stuff cracks me up.

Now some of you may jump on me for this but I also hunt. Yes, I hunt but I also have an extreme love of nature and the outdoors in general. Some people do not understand how one could be an animal lover but still hunt. I always ask the people that have a problem with my hunting what they do to help and preserve our environment. I donate hundreds of dollars every year to many foundations to protect our environment. I give a place called "Wolf Hollow" here in MA all the scraps of the deer I have taken. They rescue hybrid wolves and they have a pack of Grey wolves from the MacKenzie river area of Canada that are close to being extict. Anyone in MA should take the trip to this place, it's amazing to say the least.

I always say to put your money where your mouth is. You wan't to make a point to me, lead by example. Don't preach to me about being a vegan while wearing a leather jacket. Dont cry about me feeding my snake mice as your cramming that Big Mac down your gullet. You eventually reach a point where you just write these people off. They are obviously not very educated which pretty much makes any opinioon they may have VOID. Don't let it get to you, you're wasting your time.

its funny what people have to say, just goes to show you most people dont think about what they say they just flap there gums and stick to that BS. like just because they dont like something they think it should be outlawed and its disgusting like its a fact, but its only their opinion just because you dont like it doesnt mean its wrong, if you dont like snakes done get one, but if you get a mouse hope my snake doesnt find it lol. Its funny though the things people say, but everyone has to grow up someday you know?

Can you guys acually count up how many people ask you if you feel bad feeding your snake these small animals? i get like 20 a day at work, thats including the same people that ask me everyday....like they didnt believe me the first time i told them...

So dumb IMHO. Dog food is made out of meat anyways. Meat that can fee people. People are dying form starvation every day around the world and people complain that what I do is cruel when I feed my snake a mouse. IT'S EATING A FREAKING PEST!!! Some people make opinions off of nothing and then fight about it.

    Chase,

Although rodents are "pests" to people they still have their place. Yes they are the bottom of the food chain but if they were to disapear today a huge portion of the worlds animal species would die off in extinction. I have more respect for rodents than many people ;)
