    Future Bumblebee Makers
I really like the bumblebees but since I can't afford to buy one outright, I figure I'll try and make one.

Here's the pair that I hope will make one for me.
The pastel has really held it's color nicely over the past few years.

im in the same boat, plan to pick up a spider and a pastel few years down the road and breed them and make some combos and hets, I already have 2 normals. So I plan to pick up what you have and go the same route you are.

Heres my question though, which is better to have as the female and male? One person suggested the male be the spider so you can breed him to others. Any input on that?

Well heres my two cents buy what you want.... male spider and female pastel will make beeS just like a male pastel and female spider..

I personally would say male spider and female pastel from my point of view.

Simply because if you also turn around and breed the male spider to normal females you're going to get a better output there, than if you breed a male pastel to female normals. There is an upside of going with the male pastel though. Spiders I've noticed, tend to be the same price weather male or female where as pastel females cost more than males. On top of that, If you bread the male spider to normal female, you should get half pastels and half normals (theoretically) and then you could hold back a female pastel to breed back to it's mother for a super pastel, and then breed the super pastel with one of the bee's you've made so far to make a killer bee :)

    Just my :2cent:

It all depends on what you want. You could drop a little extra cash get a male super pastel and a female spider and produce all bees your first clutch.. :D

I actually wanna start small and breed different combos and have fun while doing it. I dont want to just dump cash into it and bam, get all bees. I wanna work my way to them.

And actually, you wouldn't get all bees from a super pastel x spider.
Half the babies will be spiders while all will be pastels. You'll get HALF bees, and half pastels. All will be morphs. At least after looking up the info all over again to triple check, this is how it plays out to me.
Half bees is still darned good...
I went with the male spider/pair of pastels, plus an extra fem pastel. It's just how it played out, since I bought the pair of pastels first, then got the spider later. Then was offered a great deal on the other pastel.
The 1.1 pastels of mine are also pHet ghost too! Holding color nicely too.

Im gonna have to make a family tree but with different morphs so I can plan out my future buying needs and be able to plan this out so I dont mess it up. Morphing confuses the hell out of me...

It's an older book, but "The Ball Python Manual" by Philippe de Vosjoli has a section of combo's and their results. It even goes into a bit of genetics and expected genotypes/phenotypes.
If you want me to, I can make a punnit square with a combo and possible outcomes. It's not to hard to understand once you get the hang of it.
