only have a few left... but i'm okay with it.

well, i rehomed/sold all my tarantulas except 3 in the last week or so. my 8 year old daughter came to me and admited that she's just not comfy with them in the house (got them all over a year ago). she didn't want to tell me cause she said, "you cried so hard when one died, i didn't want to take your pet away from you".

i'm sooooooo proud of her for telling me. i immediately (seriously within about 5 minutes of our conversation) contacted all my T friends and all of them (yes even my p. mettalica) are gone. my daughter asked me to keep skittles and my other 'favourite'... in the end, we agreed to keep our top three (as she adores maxi as well); Skittles our GBB, B!tch our OBT, and Maxi our n. chromatus.

i'm sad to rehome/sell the others but i'm very pleased they went to homes where i can get updates on them. i know they don't have 'feelings' or 'connect' to their owners but i really really http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ulke/heart.gif these guys... but i love my daughter more. :hug: i would never want her to grow up thinking... "i told mom i didn't feel comfy with them in the house and she chose them over me" - that would be tragic.

i had a talk with her again last night. showed her the empty shelves where the Ts lived and told her how proud i am of her... speaking her truth to me in such a loving gentle way, but 'speaking' it regardless! i told her i reaaaaaaaaaaaaally love my tarantulas and she said, "i know mama" with her head lowered, i lifted her chin so she could see my eyes and i said, "but i love you more" - she grinned from ear to ear (as she does everytime we discuss this) and hugged me like crazy :hug:

we have a 'mantra' i spew constantly in this house... "if you don't tell me what it is you want, i can't say yes. i may say no, but guaranteed, i can't say yes" - so i thanked her for asking me... so i could say yes.

That made me want to cry, my own mother is very distant and cold and I know she never would have done anything like that for me. She has always been more interested in what she wants over everything else.

You are wonderful!!! I have always said the hardest job in the world is to be a parent. In my opinion, the second you have kids, they must come first, before everything and anything else in your life. I see so many parents who don't believe that, it is sad. And that is great she could come to you...and good for you for listening...why does she like the 3 but not the others?

i think it's more the number seems more manageable to her? i'm not sure. she knows how much i love my Ts... so i think it may also be that, although she's not comfy with them, she didn't feel good about having them all leave.

she's a kind, loving, caring little girl... and i am blessed to have been chosen to be her mother. :hug:

Don't feel bad Aleesha, we're selling nearly all of ours as well. We're keeping one for each of the kids and one for the hubby and I that we just flat refuse to get rid of, like my E. murnius and his Chylobrachys, but we're selling some of our favorites off, like my B. klassi (uncontrolable sobbing) and his P. tigris...provided anyone can afford to buy it! :eek:

But yes, I AM keeping my snakes. I won't be getting anymore (bummer unless I can talk the hubby into getting some corns...for the kids...yeah, that's it) but the ones I have I'm not getting rid of.

I commend your daughter for her honesty and the confidence and trust in you to feel that she *could* come to you and speak her mind openly and honestly.

Well, the hubby just told me that, due to the obligatory $$$ problems that people tend to run into, I might be keeping my klassi, at least for a while longer. But it looks like our tigris and minitrix might be sold, and probably our AF G. pulchra...we'll see.

The tigris is $300, but it says you live in Canada.
Why are we selling it? Because the bank messed up (yes, the bank, moi has very good accounting skills ;) ) and now we have back rent to pay and it's either get the back rent paid and keep our house or wait for the bank to reimberse us and pack our bags. :mad:
Trust me, my husband would much rather not sell it. We have plenty of spiders we can sell, but they would not bring in as much $$ so......

Aside from that, we've been planning on selling some of our critters for a while because we have so many and I just don't have the time, but life, as life is, kind of forced our hand in the matter.

I just wish I could talk the hubby into selling some of our arboreals...but he won't. I think it's because he doesn't want to have to try and chase a 6+ inch P. regalis or demonic 5 inch P. ornata around the kitchen with a broken wrist. :eek:

bodar, you can probably pick up a p. metallica from david avery at avery exotics right now, that's where i got mine.

i didn't sell her though. i sent her to my girlfriend who breeds Ts and she's going to breed her and we have a deal set up, where i get the first sack of babies and then she gets my T. ;)

This is kind of OT, but....there are several members of another forum who are from Canada (various parts) and they can't seem to find any good invert dealers. I know that you generally go to Avery and I passed that along, as well as Tarantula Canada....any others that you know of who sell tarantulas and are reputable?

LOL i don't know of any although both animal house in chilliwack and hidden reef in abbotsford have some great Ts available. and hidden reef has all theirs on for 50% off right now!
