I used a Ranco for a good year and a half but then I just moved up to a Helix. Not going back!

My first thermostat (and only thermostat so far) is a Herpstat. It's very user-friendly and it's SO nice not to always be worrying about whether or not Auryn's tub is going to be the right temp. I check it every day--but my Herpstat has been keeping everything spot-on.

Helix all the way. Been using it for over 4 yrs now and works like a charm.
Temps are always right on the money.

I have a question for Herpstat pro users.
I see where you can plug in 4 different heat sources, have 4 probes to set up temps on.

So you can hook say 4 different racks into one ?

My rack is 4 tubs high. But the flex for all 4 tubs is wired together w/ just one plug so using a Herperstat pro on that would kinda be a waste until I added say more racks , correct. I wouldn't need the other three outputs.

Is this how some of you users have them set up ?

same thing i was wanting to know if so may be worth it... i got 2 tanks and 1 rack

my rack is 5 tubs, each one with flex, and a 3 ft piece of back flex on wall, each individually plugged into a 6 plug outlet... all the same temp...

Lets do some quick math :)

The next t-stat I would use after Herpstat would be Helix...Lets take the cost of the 4-in-1 Herpstat Pro vs the cost of Helix and see how it compares:

    Helix DBS1000 Proportional Thermostat: $134.99

    134.99 x 4 = 539.96

That doesn't even include the night drop feature (which is built into Herpstat Pro)

so, add the Helix Night Drop Time Cord at 24.99 x 4 = an additional~100 bucks for a grand total of about 640.00 before shipping costs.

IMO...Herpstat Pro is an excellent and cost effective route to go... assuming you have 4 units that need to be controlled.

Herpstat Pro manual says each output should not exceed 400 watts. I believe that as long as you say under 400 watts then you should be OK

Man, how do some of you huge breeders out there afford to control all those tubs? good grief, I remember in the thread of post the setups you have someone posting a pic that had almost like 40 tubs and crap, thats insane alone, then ontop of it to control the temps for those! Dear Lord!

they can afford it because of A. budgeting B. when you sell a snake for $1000, you have some if you need a new thermostat. If all heating elements are the same, that $140 helix can control lots of enclosures.

I use "habistat" because they were the only ones available at the time - now looking at a brand called "lucky reptile" with a jaundiced eye.
