    Smelly!
My geckos tank, STINKS! It smells like a farm. I clean up poo everytime I see it, and just minutes ago I did a full tank scrub down. It still smells! Is it my gecko himself? If so what does this mean, hes just dirty, or has something wrong with him?

Peter.....Northdale animal hospital, Adelaide and Huron

Considering the source of the animal, internal parasites are indeed likely...get r done ;)

With repticarpet, just removing the poop isnt good enough for to long. I would say atleast once a month take the carpet out and wash it good, you should have another one already cleaned to use, thats the way I did it but I dont use the carpet crap anymore, hated it.

When I was using the reptile carpet, my Leos cage stunk also. I don't think you can ever get the carpet super clean. I use paper towels now, and LOVE it. No stink, no cleaning the carpet, just roll and throw away. Doesn't look super natural, but is officiant and recyclable.

I had problems with reptile carpet too. It would just stink. Even after scrubbing it down. Plus there teeth would get stuck in it during feeding so I switched to ceramic tile. Its awesome, you only have to buy it once unless it breaks, just take them out, clean them, dry them and put them back. They are also awesome for heat.

kristy, did you have to get the tile cut to fit your enclosure or did you find a size that worked with the enclosure you have? i'm interested in using some tile myself and just wondering how you did it...

    Re: Smelly!
I have the 20 gallon long tanks so it worked out perfect actually. They are exactly 30" x 12". So I got two 12 inch tiles and two 6 inch tiles and they fit perfectly. If you measure your tanks and you find you need the tiles cut, I know both Lowes and Home Depot here will cut the first 5 for free then charge a few cents for each tile after.

When placing the tile down I put two layers of papertowels underneath them so it wasn't so rough on the glass and it would disperse the heat evenly.
Oh and make sure you don't get the glossy tiles, have you ever seen a leo try and walk on one of those lol?

thanks for the help! i bet the glossy tiles are slick--sometimes i let my tortoise run around the kitchen while i clean his enclosure and he slides all over the linoleum. :P

You're welcome. A friend of mine made the mistake of getting the glossy tiles for her leo, it was pretty cute watching him. Like Bambi on ice. So she put papertowels down until she got the ceramic no gloss tiles.
