I have a confliction.

I think I got a little dilema. My sisters decided to make me mad. My younger sister got a guinnea pig, 5x the size of the snake. I know my boy would kill it but couldn't eat it. I hate this pig too, it bites anything and everything that it sees. My other sister got three rats as pets. These things are perfect for feeding. They are exactly the right size. also, both of my sisters want to get a hamster, which would be easy work for Nathair. So the problem is, what do i say to my sisters when all their pets are gone?;)

Sorry I should have kept a better eye on my snake and had it in an enclosure that was escape proof. Your snake will be fine just under stand that the pets can't play together.

That would be funny, but because my bp just got loose a few days ago and actually ATE one of my guinea pigs, it's not.

Why would your sisters getting the pets of their choice make you mad? Their pets and your pet have no reason to interact at all let alone one eating the other.

I always preferred denial...what rats? what pig? I have no idea what you are talking about :confuzd:

My sister and I both keep a few rats and gerbils just as pets and it never causes a problem as long as you keep them seperated, and make sure neither one get out.

Yeah... my sister and I share a house and she has her cat, dog, and snake and I have my dogs, cats, and snake, but no matter what pets we bring in, we always make sure that the other pets can't/ won't kill them... Personally if I heard my sibling talking about my pets being eaten in such a manner, I'd lose it on them... thankfully my sister doesn't care to kill things that I care about or really anything in general... guess I lucked out with her, huh.

Maybe I missed the point of the post? I was under the assumption that you were actually considering feeding your sisters' pets to your snake on purpose. I certainly hope that's not the case--so I'll just concur with everyone else and say: don't let your sisters' pets and your pets near one another.

Personally I don't think jokes about delibritely killing pets as a very funny joke myself.
Feeding someone's pet rat to your snake is really not any different than them taking a shovel to your snake. The fact that snakes eat rats means nothing. The rat is a PET rat belonging to another person.
Secondly, making the joke, especially if you are doing it to your sisters, only perpetrates a hate for snakes. Don't make the job of education about reptiles harder.
I know, next it will be "Can't you take a joke?" Nope. Not when it refers to killing someone's pets. It's just not funny to me.

I read it exactely as you did...which is really really messed up.

I have two snakes, a dog, a bird, and a younger brother....ok, the brother doesnt count as a pet, but he should. Anyways, they all get along fine. The snakes are in their cages and the dog owns the house. I have on several occassions taken my oldest snake out and when handling him have shown him to my dog to see what her reaction is, so far all she does is sniffs it and runs and gets one of her toys and wants me to play with her. I have even put him on the floor and shown him to my dog to see if that would change her reaction, it did not. The reason I have done this was to see if when I am there, to control the situation, if nmy dog would snap at him or attack him, incase he somehow escapes I know i dont have to worry about my dog using him as a play toy.

But as far as feeding your sisters pet's to your snake, thats f'd up.

Note the little smilies in his post (winks) indicating just kidding. Not to mention there was nothing "delibritely" indicating he was going to kill their pets. His joke was what to tell his sisters when they disappeared.

So yes the next question is "Can't you take a joke?" No issue if you can't, unfortunately not everyone is born with a sense of humor. As we ALL know emotion cannot be shown in email (or posts)...but it does seem lately that a lot of people instantly jump to the wrong conclusion about a person's intent.

So to the original poster...set us all straight was this a joke or are you serious?

um... if it is a joke its not a good one, it doesn't even make any sense, what are you even saying are you saying only you are allowed your choice of pet? and what's a confliction? so first off, let us know if this is a joke, and second off grow up please

Now that I agree with :disbelief

IMplieing that their pets would disappear after mentioning that his pet snake could kill one, and could eat the others IS implieing he would delibritely kill the pets. Unless he regualrly lets his snake run around the house loose, which is some of the worst husbandry I've seen.
I've got a sense of humor, but it doesn't extend to subjects of child molestation, killing pets, and several other subjects I just don't think are funny.
To me if someone said in a post that their brother had a snake, and they had a shovel, and how should he tell the brother that the snake was gone, would imply he wanted to harm the snake. Somehow this post is different to you I guess.. or maybe that would somehow be different. Smileys or not, it's just not real funny to kill pets. Maybe he was making a joke, and just can't tell it right, and it came out sounding like he's a real jerk. I don't know.

Is it common to kill snakes with shovels? I saw it once... asked these big manly men what kind of snake it was... they didn't know. I asked if it was a threat to them, they said no. I called them a bunch of pussies, and my father sped off so as not to let me finish my rant and start a fight.

a men casey,, we live in the country and it makes me mad when the peeps around here shoot or use a shovel to kill the red bellies and black snakes... my dad normally gets one in his garage every year and he catches them and releases them back into the woods. :snake:

I am not sure your point...we aren't talking about your choice of a joke...but his. First, the shovel isn't natually interested in the snake and requires the brother to purposefully go after the snake. In this post he is talking about the natural interest of the snake in prey items...so yes these are very different.

But I do agree with you on the last comment...it was in bad taste or just didn't come off right...but either way I hate judging people as sadistic just because of one post that doesn't show emotion or his intent.

I've seen many snakes killed with shovels :(. Probably why I had a deepseated fear of them. When my dad would find a rattler he would always chop the head off with a shovel because he said you can't just kill them, it's possible they can still bite you. :no:
