    Radiant Heat Panels
    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here is using a Radiant Heat Panel. I have some questions.

I've got a T3 and am having trouble with my Ambient Temps for my Borneo Short Tail python. I just ordered one from Bean Farm tonight. I plan on using that along with the belly heat. Just hope I can wire it easily from inside of the AP cage.

they have a clip on plug, I'm guessing you're getting the proheat one, so its just the wire, then once you run it the plug snaps on.

It says it is an Eneryjoy. So I wont have to drill a HUGE hole in the side of the cage? And do they screw onto the top of the cage? Thanks!!

it definitely has holes for mounting i can see them on the sides, but I would imagine that the plug is the same and its just a clip on thing so all you would need to do is run the wires

but like i said i have this http://www.pro-products.com/proheat.html but again, I would imagine for such a specialized use for it they couldn't possibly do anything too different between the two companies

Awesome. My ambient temps (not including basking) are 73-77 which is way to inconsitent and low. With a 50 watt Heat Panel how much heat can that create?

    Re: Radiant Heat Panels
are you using it for ambient or basking? mine is set at 85 for my BRB but it can get the substrate pretty hot, my apartment is also about 75+ which is terrible for me, but great for all my critters, i don't even need supplemental heat for the geckos or candoia. sorry back to heat panel, like i said i use mine for the warm side and it works fine for me, even in winter when i turn it up to 90 it seems to do the job

    Re: Radiant Heat Panels
Well depending on how it works might be for basking. At the moment it will be for ambient. My room at the moment is like 70 but in the winter it can get down to 60...which upsets me. As long as I can get 78-82 ish I will be very happy.

errrrrr... the enerjoy specifically says no high humidity set ups, so that could be a problem for a short tail, just thought of that now.

Good luck with it, I am very happy with mine, I have a AP T-10 cage and it used to be impossible to keep humidity up because I had a CHE on the cool side. I had to spray the cage several times a day. That is no longer an issue, I haven't sprayed it since I installed the RHP. If you have any questions, or want other pictures of the setup, pm me, I'll do what I can to help.

    Re: Radiant Heat Panels
i run a household ultrasonic humidifier directly into the venting of the cage and have not had problems, the only thing they say is not to spray directly or dunk in water, they're more expensive, but theyre made for reptile use so they expect humidity (i think), unlike enerjoy which is for human use

Pretty upset they advertise on reptile websites if they aren't meant for high humidity situations...anyways I e-mailed them canceling my order. Still have a herpstat and snake hook from them so I hope they aren't to upset with me.

Call Pro-Products on the phone, they emailed me some crazy instructions on how to order on-line and it was absurd so I called them. They guy I talked to was fantastic though, I told him my setup and what I was looking for and he figured out what would work best. He'll probably ask a bunch of specific questions, like what the overall temp is in the room, etc, and I don't know for sure if there are any issues with high humidity. See what he says, I think they make tons of different panels that they don't even show on their webpage, so talk with them and see what they have.

Dude you rock man. Thanks I will definatley call them tomorrow. I have a cage being built for me for a GTP by www.repti-racks.com (check em out) and they use Pro-Products heat panels in their cages. I've talked to other GTP owners who say they have never had a problem with using high humidity with these panels. I would have gone with Pro-Products from the start but you can't just order by click what you want and checking out.

I think it is better that you have to call them, because they can better determine what panel you need to suit your needs, so your not paying for more than you need or getting something that doesn't heat adequately. From what I recall, they shipped it out quickly too.

We use Helix heat panels in our burm's cage, a large over the warm side and a small over the cool side; bought them at LLL Reptile.

Over the hot side, I was going to try and just use that as the heat source without the belly cable but I was afraid to take away the belly heat. I have two thermostats, one for each heat source. I may eventually move it to the cool side or eliminate the belly cable.

Bob at Pro-Products is the real deal. One of the most helpful and friendly people I have had the pleasure of doing business with. He will get you exactly what you need to heat your enclosure. If you tell him the size of your tank he will tell you what size RHP you will need and that alone should be enough to heat your entire cage. They are designed to provide a temp gradient throughout the cage. You set the RHP on one side to provide the basking spot and your ambient temps should all fall into place.

This cage pictured below was built by NERD. At first I was trying to heat the entire cage with a 50 gallon size UTH. I was getting the proper basking temps of about 93 but my cool side was only like 73-75. Seeing I didnt want to clutter my enclosure hanging a light fixture in the cage I decided to go with a RHP. I initially bought it to raise my ambient temps but I have found that it heats the entire enclosure by itself without the UTH. I bought a size smaller than Bob at pro-products suggested because I was only going to use it to warm up the ambient temps and he agreed that if that is all I needed the smaller one should be fine. Turns out it heats the entire tank, I just use the UTH now to provide a little belly heat in his warm side hide. My humidity stays between 50-60 with no misting.

Here is a bad picture of the RHP in tank.

    Almost forgot.

It's a little wacky ordering off of the Pro-Products website. I would suggest you call Bob and place your order over the phone which is what I did. I ordered it on a Wednesday and I got it Friday.
