You will NEVER NEVER freaking believe this...
Me and my boyfriend got home from work today. As always, I check the temperatures in the enclosures first thing. I didn't see Panndor in his tub, I figured he was curled up in his hide. I'm in the shower, the boyfriend comes downstairs, freaking out. So here's the story:

Aaron went to check on the guinea pigs, and only noticed one in the tub. There was a smattering of substrate so he thought one of the guinea pigs had jumped out. Their cage is on top of a coffee table, and he noticed something behind the table, so he reached in, thinking it was the piglet. It WAS PANNDOR. He pulls him out, and sure enough, Panndor has a !#$^ING huge stomach. Panndor ate my guinea pig. Holy crap.

Please let me first explain that this was in no way even slightly forseeable. The snakes are kept in a large closet. The lids snap down and lock handles on the sides. The closet door is always closed. The guinea pigs are in the room adjacent, on top of a coffee table. Panndor somehow got out of his tub without disturbing the locked handles, crawled under the door, climed on top of the coffee table, into the tub, got the guinea pig, and then dropped back down. I'm just at a loss for words.

Anyway... I'd feel guilty almost, just not sharing this. This is really strange. I feel awful. Those guinea pigs are as much pets as Panndor is.

Awww, Amy, I'm so sorry you lost a pet :(

I know what you mean about it being unexpected, my first escape was such a shock. But yeah, they can get out of tubs with lids, most people use clamps on the sides of the tubs for that reason.

    Wow. Just.....wow.

I'm sorry for the loss of your squeaker, and I hope Panndor is okay after his meal (and that he doesn't demand to be fed guinea pigs henceforth).

Snakes are the ultimate escape artists. It's amazing what they can get out of sometimes.

Schizo was a juvenile, not really a baby. Panndor's middle is ENORMOUS. I hope he's going to be alright, not really showing any signs of regurging or anything. I'm getting a new piglet first thing tomorrow, the poor other one is petrified after watching his friend get eaten :( Thanks for all your kind words.

I know what you mean, I can't believe he was able to swallow it. His stomach looks like some of those pics of gravid females, it's ridiculous. He seemed quite pleased with himself.

Even with those clip down ends Amy if your tub lid can give even 1/8 of an inch (and most can), a snake can escape. Adding straps, binder clips, etc. will avoid that happening again. I'm so sorry about your GP and hope your snake is able to keep that huge meal down. Just make sure the temps are nice and stable and warm and don't disturb the snake at all for a good solid week. Keep an eye on your snake and if it seems overly distressed or unable to digest (the lump doesn't go down or actually starts to expand) seek immediate vet advice.

I'm so very sorry about you guinea pig. :(

We house most of ours in an escape proof cage. If they happen to get out of their tub, they cannot get out of the surrounding they are in.

    Thanks guys :(

Here's a picture of Panndor with his huge belly. It seems to be moving alright so far, a little more than halfway down his body. He cannot fit in his hide because his stomach is so big.

Here's the new guinea pig. I haven't named yet. If you have any ideas let me know.

And this is the little guy, Sammy, who survived the "attack." I was really worried about him but the new gp brightened him right up and I think a couple of weeks without chaos and he'll be fine.

Do you ever think only weirdly absurd things ever happen to you? I feel that right now.
