    Strange Combo
Has anyone produced a caramel albino spider yet? I was reading a thread on combo morphs, and people were talking about albino spiders, but not the caramel albino spiders. Is there something about the allele location on the chromosomes that wont allow the combo to happen, or has no one tried it yet? Just curious.

Kas, you should try it!! haha Talk about diving in head first, eh? :D

"What was the first thing you hatched?" "Oh, I created a new morph..."

    hehehe :giggle:

But, it would be cool to see pics if it has already been tried...

Lol I'm seriously thinking about it... I need some breeding racks, and a bigger incubator.. I don't think my little hovabator for my leos will work for too long >.<. And then of course I'll be needing to find the money to get either some het pairs, or the pure morphs themselves, which would be a lot.. I need a job lol.

Come work at Sonic!! (and keep me sane!) hehe

You don't aim too low do you?!

I said something to my mom about getting more snakes and she wasn't too fond of the idea yet...I'm going to have to warm her up to that....

Ya... Why arn't you in studio? =P j/k. I should work at sonic... but I just signed up for 16 hours next semester, and I'm going to summer school to play catch up for dropping chem. We'll see how my work load is after the first few weeks of fall semester.

    -edit-
and about aiming too low, heck no! I think I might get a pastel too to fiddle around with some possible color differences. who knows.

I should be...should have been all day :P *oops* And I don't blame you for not wanting too..there is a reason I only work on weekends... You should work at El Chico this summer. Summer classes are easier (and shorter) than regular classes. That's when I have to earn most of my money =/

I am in the same boat with Jon. I have heard of the breeding for them, but it was just missed. I too believe that we will see one this year. I have a male Caramel and a female Spider that should be bunk mates this coming season, so hopefully I can get started on it next year.

I am extremely excited to see this morph. I'm sure it's going to be absolutely beautiful! I love both morphs, so maybe I'm a bit biased about it, but, heh ya.

Actually you won't need two Spider het caramel to make caramel Spider, right?

I mean all you need is one Spider het caramel, then breed it with caramel because spider is a dom/co-dom anyway so one of them will be enough. Am I right or am I correct? :D

Same rule to any dom/co-dom x Recessive combo
    - Pastel Ghost
    - Albino Spider
    - Pastel Pied
Or we need two dom/co-dom morph het recessive to make a dom/co-dom recessive combo???

you need 2 co/dom het recessive to make the combo

Breeding a spider x caramel you will get spiders and normals all het for caramel. Breed 2 spiders het caramel and you still only have a 1 in 16 chance for a caramel albino spider

Yes, you could make a Spider Caramel by breeding a Spider het Caramel to a het Caramel or a Caramel...

I don't agree on two points, and I may be wrong.

    1) I believe Hgrub was correct - if you have a 100% het caramel spider - and you breed it with a caramel - you should be able to produce caramel spiders as you only need one to carry the spider gene, but two to carry the caramel gene.

    2) Breed two spider het caramels - wouldn't it be the same odds as two 100% het anything? The spider is dom, so would the odds really be 1 in 16, or would it be better odds?

    Robin,
    1) You are absolutely correct

    2) This is where it gets hairy. A Spieder Het. Caramel is a Double Het. animal, because the Spider is a visual Heterozygous animal. So, the outcome for breeding 2 Spider Het. Caramels together is the same as any DH Punnet Square. Now the Hairy part is, the Punnet Square will show that you get 4 offspring that will be Homozygous Spiders of some sort (question being, Do they exist). Here is the breakdown from a sixteen egg clutch from Spider Het. x Spider Het.:
    1 - Normal
    2 - Het. Caramels
    1 - Caramel
    2 - Spiders
    4 - Spiders Het. Caramel
    2 - Spider Caramels
    1 - Homozygous Spider
2 - Homozygous Spiders Het. Caramel
    1 - Homozygous Spider Caramel

p.s. obviously, all Normals would be 66% poss het Caramel, all Spiders would be 66% poss het Caramel and (if) all Homozygous Spiders would be 66% poss het Caramel.
Easy answer to your number 2 question is, the odds would be better 1 in 8 for Spider Caramel, or if there can be a Homozygous Spider that appears the same as a Heterozygous Spider, then the odds would be 3 in 16.

I hope that didn't confuse anybody too much.
