    Auryn and His Mom
I had Auryn out today, and felt like we should do some pictures together, since he makes such a nice accessory ;)

Oh, and a picture of Chloe, my very talented Beta.

Technically? No. They only do one inspection per semester in the upper classmen apartments, and we know about them several days in advance (about what day/time it will be, etc.). So, Auryn spent one day under my bed (I have a bedskirt) with his thermostat/tub/flexwatt and when the inspection was over, he came right back out again.

The "inspection" this semester consisted of my RA coming in, glancing around my living room and kitchen, barely glancing into my bedroom and asking "You don't have any candles anywhere, do you?" I said no, and he went on his merry way.

I imagine having my own bedroom and bathroom helps with concealment :) I wouldn't even have to let my suitemate be privy to his existence if I didn't want to. Although, she does know--because I asked her if it would be okay with her before I bought Auryn.

Of all the Betas at the store that day, she was fiesty and all the males looked (as male Betas tend to) depressed. I also hadn't seen females before, and thought it would be interesting to have one!

She is SO much fun. She does a "trick" for her food. I'll hold the little pellet dispenser up above her bowl, and she'll look at it, adjust her position, and then jump out of the water. Then I dispense her food. It's SO cute.

And she always gets excited any time someone gets near her bowl, because she thinks she's going to get fed.

Suprised you are able to keep a snake if you live in a dorm. Only make mention because I am going to be working/living at a dorm next year and as of right now, thats the only snag in my plans to get a snake.

a lot of fish in the gourami family do that, its great fun. I had a bunch of gouramis while i was experimenting on fish color vision for a lab and once we finished collecting data I would just sit there and make them jump or spit for their food. Thats the other great thing they do, like archerfish, they sit there and spit at whatever you're holding till you give it to them

    Aww, Auryn's looking so nice!

And female Bettas are so much more fun. I have three in a tank in my bathroom and they all line up to stare at me. They do cute little acrobatics for their food as well. So cute!

I got away with having a cockatoo in my dorm freshman year....a bp should be a snap to hide from the RA :D

That's because it's a dorm--and I'm not technically able to have him here (see page one where I go into it at length for someone else with the same question/comment ;) )

Nice pics Kim. It looks like college life agrees with him. ;)

I kept a ferret in my dorm room for 2 years, but we never had inspections. I would be lost without an animal friend.

Very nice pictures. BP fashion is all the rage in Milan.

I heard betas where some of the only fish to recognize the person that feeds them. Anyone else ever hear this?

Cute pics!! You guys make a cute couple! ^_^

And yeah, we "can't" have snakes in my dorms either. But the RA knows about Kasi's snake, and just looks the other way, and I just don't bring mine up. I would have to hide her if we were to have inspections (I think they do them over the longer breaks, the the floors RA's each do their own floor, so it's still ok) If Kasi and I were ever to get caught...!!! *eeps* Between the two of us there are 2 BPs, a chameleon, a rat, and a couple of mice, depending on the time of week :P

    cool pics

I have a couple fish that do tricks too. My red devil gives "kisses" except he is really trying to eat your face through the glass. He also will jump out of the water for food, but it is usually to grab my fingers before i can drop the food in. Having a 12" fish hanging from your fingers by its teeth is no fun. I also have a catfish that i can handfeed :)

Oh and i noticed that you say male bettas are usually all boring. You should take a look at crowntail bettas. Im not sure what it is, but their "sharp" looking fins make them seem more energetic

It's not so much that they're boring, they just look all droopy and depressed all the time :) If I'm ever in the market for a beta again, I'll look into crowntails!

And catfish are delicious fried up and served with cheese-grits ;) They're also really neat. There was a marina near where I used to live in Florida, and there was a little food place on the boardwalk. People would go outside and toss french fries to these HUGE catfish. I'd never seen any that large!
