    What do you love?
With all the freaky weather this year, we've all had a lot of complaints about where we live. So I thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to what we love about our towns, cities, or general area where we live!

I love living in DFW. To me, variety truly is the spice of life, and we definitely have that here! If you like pro sports, we have basketball, hockey and football teams. I run into the players for all 3 teams all the time, which is pretty cool. We also have tons of college teams if that's your thing.
In the fall, there are so many festivals around here, it's crazy. We have the Texas State Fair, Taste Addison, Grapefest and Oktoberfest.
The shopping here is also amazing. There are malls and shops here that people travel from around the world to shop at. I love shopping, so I'm always looking for the good sales.
There are so many radio stations here, you can find any music you'd like to listen to. And if you like talk radio, well we have Russ Martin. Haha, there are others, but Russ is the coolest. We also have clubs/bars for every taste.
There's never "nothing to do" here. We have museums, aquariums, zoos..including the Ft. Worth Zoo, which Steve Irwin was very fond of.
Oh, and there are some amazing 5 star hotels here, so come on down, ya'll! The people here are very friendly until they get on the major highways

So come on, tell everyone what you love about where you live! Provide pictures of interesting sights, too!

Hehehe...DFW is definitely great for all those reasons! (They have baseball too, even. :P ) The only pro-sports guy I ever ran into though was Don Meridith and he was long-since retired from football at the time. Was a regular customer for a short time at a 7-11 I managed back in the day. My sister worked there too and he used to try and give her dating advice. (I had a steady boyfriend so I didn't need any I guess.) Dandy-Don....really nice guy!

I've lived quite a few places and could make a list like this for all of them. Part of what keeps me sane in moving so much is finding the great things about any location and focusing on them.

San Antonio is one of my favorites, though. The Spurs are probably my all-time ever favorite sports team of any sports...ever! LOL Gently rolling hills and gorgeous wild flowers in the spring. GREAT Hispanic culture and activities as well as a really fun "Old West" feel. The Alamo is fascinating. The zoo is very nice. The RiverWalk is beautiful and oh-so pleasant on a warm summer night. An easy drive down south for a day at the beach!! Close enough to DFW to visit relatives as often as desired, but not so close that we have to visit all the time. :P And....SEA WORLD!!! :D

I love my ADD and perfectionism. The combo has me discovering so many things that I love, before mastering them and finding something new to enjoy and learn. I also love Grolsch and Pilsner Urquell, slightly chilled to 65 degrees. I can't think of anything I love about where I live.

I love the rural area where I live in NH.
The wildlife viewing is excellent, everyone in town knows your name, and all you can see are trees pretty much everywhere you go :)

I love that we are close enough to Dartmouth University to get great medical care and a bit of 'culture' like the film festivals and arts performances at the school.

I love puttering in my yard and hearing only the wind blowing up the valley.

I love the utter lack of traffic :)

    I love Utah!

With less then an hour of traveling I can get to:
    Desert
    Sand dunes
    A Lake
    Forest
    Mountains
    Rivers
    Ski resort
    granite rock climbing
    quartzite rock climbing
    Big City
    Farm towns

Short of the beach or a rain forest we pretty much have it all.
I love the fact that I am close enough to the mountains that I can be herping with a 10 minute drive.

I also loooove the low humidity (except for my snakies sake).

I LOVE living in an appartment. I live just across the border from NYC/Bronx. So I have all the thrills of NYC. But because I don't live in NYC, I have a car. I can travel to all sorts of great things. I have a reservoir pass (had to get it from the Homland Security -- need a clearance) so I can take my family to fishing and hiking where it is still pristine!

Yonkers is a basket-case city, but it is surrounded by great stuff and things to do just a few minutes away, and it is a lot less money to live in.

Well i love the fact that pretty much all my neighbors have kids my kids age. THat we all hangout in the front yards watching the kids play and having a few drinks talking and having a good time. I dont love my yard, it is way to small but when you have great people living next to you and they have kids its like one big yard.. I love that my city is close to cleveland so we can take the kids to a ball game(go tribe). I love that were we live is still countryish, but not for long.

I love that i work only 10 minutes away from home so im home to get my son of the bus, and have all day to spend with me 3 kids.:D

not about were i live~ but i just got back from the doctors with my middle child and she got four shots. and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that she was a total trooper and didnt even cry when she got them, my wife always goes for those appt. but she had surguries today so she couldnt. I told her not to look, hug on me and talk to me and it worked. I felt like superdad:D ..hahaha. So I love that..sorry that was off topic but i had to say it.

Oh gosh, I forgot about baseball, hahaha. I run into a lot of the athletes going to clubs, and I used to in my old previous of work as well.
San Antonio is definitely a great place! I haven't gotten to see and do all I want to there, yet, so I'm hoping to visit again soon.

Fishmommy, that is a great view!

Oh and Utah....I think Salt Lake City got me started on my shopping addiction. I lived in the southwest corner of Wyoming for a while when I was a teen, and the thing to do there was head down to SLC and hit the ZCMI. Good times!

I am loving reading everyone's stories and descriptions. I haven't traveled a lot, so this is a great way to get to know what other areas are like to live in.

    Re: What do you love?
I love my little farming town (Village) of 300 people. I originally came from a city with the population of 60,000 but would not move from this area for anything.
If I want to go fishing, hunting, camping all I have to do is walk about 70 yards out of my front door and I got all three. The Embarras river, (pronounced Ambraw), flows about 70 yards from my house. Plus pond after pond every where you look. White tail deer walk through my yard every evening and so do skunks, raccoons, possums, ground hogs...you get my drift...lol If this aint country, I don't know what is.
There is really nothing to do here. This town has 2 bars, 1 bank, 1 gas station, 2 Churches and 2 business, one that makes dog igloo's and the other a meat processing store. That is it. If I want to go out to eat (except for pizzas and microwave sandwiches at the bar) I have to travel at least 15 minutes, same for the grocery store. But, if I want to go see the big city life I just have to travel 2 1/2 hrs to St. Louis or 2 hours to Indianapolis. I like to visit them, but wouldn't want to live there. I hate congestion.
There is basically no crime around here except for a few people with sticky fingers. Only one murder in the history of this town.
Fresh air...Kinda like Green Acres. A great place to raise the young'ns. Simple, easy quiet life.. Now the kids would disagree..."Theres nothing to do around here...I'm bored" that's all I ever hear....
    Still I wouldn't trade it.

I love that I live in a very dog friendly and tolerant neighborhood. It's set back apart from the main road so there isn't a big danger of them getting hit unless they wandered very far away. Everyone lets their dogs go free and play together, they are all fixed so there's no chance of unwanted puppies. It is hilarous to watch a pack of dogs running through the neighborhood with none other than my own husky Roxie in the lead.

    Re: What do you love?
What do I love about my town... Some things I both love and hate, depending on my mood.

-- 2,000 year round residents means a small community of close-knit people and everyone knows you. They also know all about you--everything that is gossip worthy (and some things that aren't).

-- A huge resevoir, a handfull of lakes and several ponds in addition to the trees and small-town atmosphere make my hometown the quintessential "small New England" town...and it's just as charming for me as it is for the out-of-towners who come to visit The Berkshires.

-- We're in the middle of everywhere--meaning that we're a 30-45 minute drive from grocery stores, malls, high schools and a selection of gas stations. The bad side? We're a 30-45 minute drive from grocery stores, malls, high schools and a selection of gas stations.

-- Our first gas station was built in town two years ago--now there's something to love! Isn't driving 30 minutes to get gas a little silly? Then again, you get charged .10 more per gallon in-town than anywhere else...

-- My parents' restaurant. It's a convenient way to make cash during my vacations from college and a way to spend more time with my family. On the other hand, it's an obligation, too--and I can't always pick and choose when I get to work (like on my vacations...when my sister goes to Virginia and I get to work the entire week...).

I guess it was supposed to be only the things I love, but I do have to express both sides of the coin ;) I have a very love/hate relationship with Otis.

Ironhead, that sounds so much like where I grew up. My town was a lot bigger though, with 2000 people, but we lived on a farm so that hardly mattered.

Meme, you are so lucky! I'd give anything to have Kristin that close to me!

Kim, I'm coming to visit you. I've never even been to New England (not that counted anyway), so pull out the couchbed!

Everyone: I am really enjoying reading about your neighborhoods and towns. They all seem so different from mine...especially with the dogs running loose! We even have cat leash laws here, I'd be amazed if I saw a dog running the streets!

I love that I can walk my son to school, and that our neighbors are always there if you need anything. We've got great music and BBQ on Beale Street. Unfortunately, we are far from our family.

Also, the wildest animal we spot is the occassional chipmunk and oodles of squirrels. I do end up with the occassional dog that gets out of the back yard though.

I love Arcade, NY. It is the perfect size, though there are many suburban-type houses replacing many farms, which means more traffic; but there are stores, etc.
The farm that we rent is paradise in my eyes. Our driveway puts the house about half a mile away from the road, which is a usually-nicely plowed state road. We can shoot, hike, ATV ride, and the like, right at home. I honestly have to pinch myself often when roaming around the woods, or walking down the driveway, just to make sure this is not a dream! Best of all, we can keep our horses right at home; I can look out the bedroom window and see them outside, and the barn is a short walk across some grass. These are all home pics :)
Side note: Fishmommy; your house and its view must be AWE inspiring! My kinda place!

I love being in the middle of nowhere, With trees as far as the eye's can see. Also love hiking, horseback riding, competeing in dog shows and horse shows. Reading, being lazy and antique shopping. A dip in a river and sleeping outdoors on a sandbar listening to the water rush by after a day of canoeing.:D :D :D

i loooove where we live. from our driveway to the beach is 7 minutes! a traffic jam is when we have more than 3 vehicles on the road at once (that includes bicycles) :P

mountains can be seen in almost every direction. our spring starts in feb and our winter begins in november. we get a few days of snow a year... and lots of sunshine.

it's 45 minutes to the closest ski resort.
    90 minutes to the ocean.
lots of nature walks, wildlife galore and bird sanctuaries.

people are spiritually open... health food stores exist even in small towns like mine AND homes are still affordable (in an out of control highly expensive province).

I love Texas for several reasons... If you drive 3-4 hrs. in any direction you can hit Ocean, mountains, (OK... big hills) What I call scrub land; deer country...no grass/rocks/caucus... See amazing wild flowers.. We have great camping (Hitting Lake Travis next weekend)... And the weather always keeps you guessing! Great fishing, and the most beautiful sun sets!

In general... Texans are slow going and EZ people... most of them! :P

    Re: What do you love?
I hate living near Chicago. No matter where I move, or how nice the neighborhood is, a ton of gangbangers always follow me. Forest Park where I grew up turned into a complete ghetto (although they are cleaning it up now), moved to Westmont and was followed by a ton of hoods being moved from the projects to the HUD okayed suburbs. One family, I think about 15 family members from what I saw (a mom with about a dozen kids aged 1-20) moved in across the street and caused absolute chaos with some friends from the city. Harrassing and assaulting people, then 73 cars in one weekend got tires slashed, robbed, a corvette on blocks with the wheels gone, etc. The family was evicted after 3 weeks. Only one of MANY that moved in and caused problems when they started sending them out of the projects and into the burbs. Then Minooka. Corn field and white gangbangers, much like Brookfield and Riverside, only worse. These posers were hardcore. Think B-Rad, only cloned 500X, only they are somewhat respectful out there. Now Woodridge. Nice condos a 1.5 years ago when I moved in. Now it's the same thing as Westmont, and getting worse every week. I can't even walk across the street to buy a 6 pack without some crackhead or group of gangbangers in winter appearal (76 degree out), fresh out of jail asking me for money or a ride to the bus stop. Forest Park had real thugs, but at least I grew up with most of them and they knew I wasn't anyone to be f'n with. Anyone else having these problems where they live?
