    Just curious
How many people are into fish here? I've only really belonged to fish forums before. This is my first venture away besides kingsnake, but I consider their format not very user friendly and outdated.
I've got 9 freshwater fish tanks and 1 brackishwater at home. I also take care of my store's fishroom. We are getting ready to venture into saltwater in the next month. That's going to be a learning experience!
I keep mostly cichlids and have several big meanies. My smallest running tank is 20 and my largest is 210. I have several others that sit empty(waiting for new snakes! :D ).
My largest fish are my giant gouramy(about 16") and my male midas cichlid(14.5"). My smallest are my bumblebee gobies at about 1.5."

What does everyone else keep here?

what fish forums do you belong to?
I am fishmommy pretty much everywhere animal-related, but I have not been super active on the fish forums this past year.

I have a 180g Malawi hap tank with tankbusters in it
75g Mixed African (yeah, Vics, Malawi growouts, Tangs...so sue me LOL)
    75g aquatic garden with angels
    10g Tanganyikan shellies

I recently discontinued a second 75g planted and converted it to a dart frog viv.
I also have two more 10g, and three 30g that run from time to time if I am raising fry or need QT for some reason. I used to be big into Apple snails also :)
I've been planning to try doing a reef setup with one of my 75's in the future...I love the invertebrates!

    see you around!

We've got a number of members that keep beautiful fish tanks. I don't have any myself, but I love looking at their pictures. ~hint hint~ :P I'm sure our other fishy keepers will chime in soon!

i have a few fish myself :P i've been keeping fish for most of my life... started when i was 9 (and my eldest child is turning 21 this year!)

currently we have a 29 gallon fresh water set up in our youngest daughter's room. she has a fire eel, some loaches and other community fish. in my bedroom we have a 46 gallon brackish tank. in our front entranceway we have a 135 g bismarck frontosa tank... a nice colony of a dozen - the largest is about 10" so still lots of growing to do. there's a whole beautiful ecosystem of fish in there... three breeding females with one male (so three sep. 'nesting' areas in the tank) of daffodil pulchers. we keep our alto. comp. in there to assist with keeping the population of the daffs in control somewhat LOL

in my kitchen we have a 77g tank which houses our oscars at this moment although we are in the process of building a new tank stand/hog island boa enclosure for the living room which will hold a 135g for the oscars and assorted cichlids which are too grumpy to live in any of our other tanks. the 77g is going to set up as a malawi tank again, as that's what it used to be.

in the living room we'll have the 135g on one wall and on another (well the wall is lowered to build the stand) sits our 210g community tank. we have eels, loaches, plecos and some other community cichlids and fish in that tank. it's planted and very friendly. a few rainbow cichlids, moorri dolphin.

we had a 90g salt in the living room as well... but we traded it for tattoos (yippppeee) a few weeks ago.

we also have a little ecosystem in an exo terra which houses anoles, firebelly toads and some endlers and a gorgeous pond in the backyard with koi and shubunkins.

i'm kinda addicted to fish :wuv:

    welcome to bp.net!

:D I belong to oscarfish, blood parrot forum, aquamojo, aquariacentral, carolinacichlids, cichlid-forums. I don't frequent them as much as I used to and stay on carolinacichlids the most. Although it's under the guise of a fish forum, it's not really. ;) More of a hangout where anything goes.

I would love to see your guys' tanks, especially that front colony! I want a Tang tank someday with a front colony.
I went way too heavy into the big nasty guys in the beginning so I actually don't have what you'd call a normal community tank.
For example, my 210 houses a midas cichlid, blackbelt, gold flowerhorn, 3 tinfoil barbs, a jaguar, synodontis catfish, Mozambique tilapia and an African hybrid cichlid that was supposed to be a feeder. He learned to hang with the giants and has been living in there for a few years now. I'll have to round up a few choice photos of my fish and post them. :D

This is my only fish (that's a rosey red minnow in there for size reference) but I love fish.. when I have my own house I'll keep more again. Fancy bettas, nature aquariums and reef tanks are my favorites (though I have never kept a reef tank myself)

Mr Whiskers is a brown bullhead that I caught about.. 7-8 years ago when he was itty bitty. He's my buddy.. eats from my fingers. lol

    Re: Just curious
yes they do... waaaaaaaaay too big for a tank. when we bought it, it was sold to us as a dwarf... within a couple of weeks... it was obvious it wasn't a dwarf!

so we'll keep it until it's too big and then see what we can do at that time... i never would have bought it, had i known it's true genetics though :(

I know what you mean. I was sold a "whale cat" that may turn out to be a Rita rita that will be as long as I am tall one day(5'). I haven't admitted to myself yet, that that's what he may be.

And it's not just fish stores themselves that are misleading, it's wholesalers, too. I ordered what was listed as a "redtail jaguar cat" for the store once that was about $6. When I unpacked the fish order later, I thought he was the cutest little thing and brought him home for myself. Kinda' looked like a shovelnose cat, but with S.A. redtail markings. I had no clue what he was until I asked someone on another forum. Guess what, he IS a cross between a tiger shovelnose and a S.A. redtail!! Oh, gee, another 5 footer. Anyone up for catfish BBQ in about 5-10 years? ;)
I'm actually kind of glad I took him home myself instead of unleashing the horrible unknown on an unsupecting customer.

    Re: Just curious
ya it's amazing what the wholesalers think up to sell fish... making up their own names so you say, "hey that sounds new... let's try that one" LOL
