    Job interview... any tips?
    Hey everybody!

So I have an interview tomorrow for which I am quite nervous. I am applying for an administrative assistant job for some big wigs at a bank. I am interviewing with 4 people (eep!).

So far I bought a new outfit and a nice binder full of resumes and letters of recommendation.

Can anyone give me a few tips on giving a good interview?

Thanks in advance and wish me luck!

Um... let's see if I remember some of the tips that I've been told...

    -Make eye contact
-If you have any visible tattoos(like on your arms,) you should wear something to cover them up.
-LISTERINE! No one likes bad breath. ;)

    well, that's all I've got.

Heath posted a similar thread a few months ago and here was my advice from that thread ....

As someone that has interviewed, hired, and fired many many people I can offer you this ...

    1. Don't smell ... if I can smell you (BO, breath, smelly hands, etc) you're cooked.

    2. Be relaxed and friendly ... the interviewer doesn't want to be there even more than you don't, so being a bore will make it even more miserable.

    3. If you're asked a question and don't know the answer, don't struggle, BS, or stall ... just say that you don't know.

    4. Show that you want to do well and help the company succeed ... what you know is secondary.

    5. Don't try and play it cool .. if you're super excited by the opportunity, show them that ... it will help ... eager is a good thing.

    6. Be honest.

    7. Don't worry about the winter coat ... IT people aren't generally know for being fashion bugs.

Good luck ... smile, smile, smile!!!

There was also a lot of great advice from others in the thread as well ... here is the link ... http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...6&page=1&pp=10

Good luck and keep us posted on how you do ... we'll be rootin for ya!!! :carrot:

    hehe, thanks!

I do have a tattoo on my wrist. I was planning on covering it with gauze and wearing a long sleaved shirt. Sound appropriate?

Dress REEEEEEAALY nice. And if you have any piercings, take em' out. Look professional. If they see you took the time to look nice, then you'll seem very interested in the job.

Just bought a white long sleeved shirt, a blue tie, and some nice shoes...

Question... would a neatly trimmed goatee be okay or should I shave it?

Read up on the bank...financial reports, goals, mission statements, company history, etc. Sprinkle this info into your meeting - this shows they you are as interested in them as they are in you.

As an AA you are there to help them...so answer questions in that fashion.

Also, ask questions about what they want or expect again leads to interest.

    Good Luck

Normally I would say it doesn't really matter...but since this is a bank and most are very old school...I recommend you shave.

listen carefully, don't fidget, and listen.

    oh, and listen!

try to breathe deep and relax right before....a relaxed, confident candidate will always come off better than a nervy one - as long as they know what they are talking about and don't bs :)

pretty much what everyone else stated.

also when shaking their hands, you know the drill:D firm but not hard.

this shows the big guys that you are confident and they have respect for you.

    good luck!!!:salute:

    Don't lie.

If you get sweaty hands, a travel size bottle of Purel or anti germ stuff will 'dry' them up.

For a good position in a bank, definately shave. Dress, look and smell as clean as you can. Firm, but not overpowering handshakes. 3 pumps then break it off clean. Be confident, don't BS, make eye contact, lots of smiles and "yes sirs" and "yes ma'ams", show optimism and pretend you are the perfect and only person they would ever want for the position. 1/2 a Xanax and an Irish coffee will make a lot of these come naturally :D Good luck.

    :D :D :D

Well that went well! I didn't get offered a job right off but I think my chances are good.

I interviewed with about ten people at once! Eep! That was kind of freaky. I did a very good job and didn't hesitate with any of my answers. They gave me a few doozies too. I really hate the "Give me an example of a time when...." questions. Blah!

So I thought I was interviewing for one position but it turns out there are about 5 or 6 different admin jobs open, hence all the people interviewing me. After talking with me for some time, the director decided I needed to interview with yet another person that was not there in the ATM department. So I went and talked with her and I guess she is hiring some one to order money for their vendors ATMs. After explaining the job to me, it seems like that would be a much better fit! I have a lot of purchasing experience and it is what I love to do. I told her that it sounded like the perfect job for me and I am very interested. She said she had one more person to interview but she would "definitely be getting in touch with me".

    wish me luck!

I am off to write some thank you letters.

I wrote them all thank you notes for the interview, but before I could stick them in the mail, they called me back. hehehe

Thank you all for the advice! It really helped!
