Please use guns responsibly and legally.. I need to say, guns are a completely awesome thing to get into..

Just some safe, empty-chambered fun :) Never aim a gun at anyone, loaded or not.

Are we allowed to post photo's of guns now? I thought I saw a while back pics or even mentioning a firearm was a no no.

If we are allowed to, then great, I'd like to post a photo or two. Someone should even start an official gun thread or something.

Oh, and shooting out in the cold snow sucks. I don't know what it is but I hate it. :(

    Thanks!
Tyree, it is fine to shoot here. The woods that my LL owns goes back a few miles and no one is out there.. but we just shoot into a sidehill where we set up targets and the bullets just go into the ground. It is safe :)

You just can't SELL guns on this site. And something that was questionable was an airsoft that LOOKED like a "real" gun that we did not allow pics of, even though we allowed the ad to stay.

Pics of legal guns that folks own like these are fine.

I just love the AR.. unf, it is not mine, but be;longs to my friend and her husband.. it is such a "cushy" gun to shoot. Hardly any kickback.. not like the shotgun my dad is holding.. I will be sent backward ten feet if I try shooting that monster!

Lol yea, shotguns (at least 12 gauge and lower) will do that :D I also love the relatively small recoil of an AR, not many other rifles pack such a decent punch for such a small cartridge.

ETA: Later on I'll post a pic of mine.

I don't think I could actually shoot a person.. if it came down to being threatened by someone, or someone trying to hurt an innocent person, probably..

Booo AR-15's, M4's and M16's for that matter!

Hurray the HK416 for fixing most of the design flaws of the before mentioned firearms. http://www.hk-usa.com/le_hk416_general.html http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/02/atCarbine070219/

That looks cool, but I would probably have to sell all of my posessions to buy one :)

    Anyone know about Ruger Mini-14?

I actually wouldn't mind one of those. But really, what design flaw do you speak of? Direct gas impingment? As opposed to the gas piston design of the HK?

AK's use gas piston, and while it is probably more reliable, I have had many an AR-15, and my only malfunctions have either been 1) Ammo related, 2) Magazine related, or 3) I haven't cleaned the thing for 3000 rounds :D And <----- one only happened with my first AR, never since.

And my AK has overall been less reliable then my AR's.

(Not to mention the price tag on one of those HK's) :)

Regarding the Mini-14, I haven't heard too much good about them, they are .223 which is nice, but more regarded as a 'plinker'. BUT, everyone likes different things. I'll see what I can find regarding them.

Thanks; I am a big Ruger fan because of my .22, and I saw a few at the last gun show we were at, but I was just window (or table) shopping.

The gas blow back that fouls the receiver and most of the internal parts is the main problem. I've had EVERY M16 and AR-15 I've ever used jam on me. Regardless of how new or clean it was or what type/quality ammo I was using. It is a big problem and has been since it's inception in the early 1960's and has been widely documented.

The early, early versions had problems with fouling, but that was due to the powder of the ammo they were using.

That sucks you've had bad experiences

bingo thats because of the amount of parfin that was in the powder made a sticky burnt residue after only a few rounds.

I used a brand new AR-15 just a couple years ago with less than 100 rounds through it and it started jamming. The fouling was indeed worse with early models that were first released over 40 years ago. But it's still an issue even with brand new models.

Colt though after seeing what HK did will be doing the same and will start producing M4's and M16's with the same design. It's just sad it took that long for them to make the change.

Ginevive, here is a link to some Mini-14 forums that I found. I normally peruse www.ar15.com, so I don't know much about this forum. But it looks like they have lots of good info.
