Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
as always sorry for the quality

and also, do you think a leo would go in this? its 2 exo-terra small hides put together, i thought it would make a great hide to put sphagnum moss in, but is it too open for a leo? would they not feel secure in it?

Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
that should be enough space. i'm not sure about that round hide--i think it probably won't be secure enough. i have those exo terra hides and i just made a humid hide out of one of them but cutting some plastic out of an old rubbermaid tub to fit the bottom and then gluing it on with silicone sealant (like you would use on an aquarium). it's a little hard to clean inside but it works great and my leo loves it. :)
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
You could always wedge it with a couple of well placed rocks so it wouldn't wobble.
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
if there was a piece of plastic glued on it wouldnt it be very hard to get the leo itself out?
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
The set up looks fine to me, except for the sand....thats asking for an impacted gecko.
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
come oooon, its an adult, and is eating mealworms out of a dish, not crickets on the sand

yes, but why do you need to get the leo out? whenever i need to change the papertowels (i use moist papertowels instead of moss) or clean or whatever i just wait until the leo is out and about or in the other hide.
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
i mean like if i wanna pick him up

Your condescending remark leads me to believe you don't have much experience with Leopard Geckos, so I'll lay it out for you here, Chief.
1. Regardless of age or size, Leopard Geckos can still become impacted from sand.
2. Regardless of where or what you are feeding the Gecko, it can still become impacted from sand. Have you not noticed how when Leos walk around, they are constantly licking everything they come into contact with? They WILL lick the gound, and ingest sand if thats what you're using as a substrate.
3. Sand is geographically wrong for Leopards. They do not live on sand dunes in the wild. They live in the Middle East in rocky outcrop regions....take a look at their toes if you need further convincing. They have obviously evolved to climb rocks and dig burrows in SOIL. Their feet are not designed for sand-walking.
Now.
Do you still feel as though my attempt to redirect your poor husbandry deserves a contrite remark that could ultimately lead to the demise of your captive? I would hope that your goal as an animal keeper would be to provide the safest possible environment for your animals. My posts in this thread are only meant to prevent you from experiencing the loss of life as I have due to using sand as a substrate. :)

if you want to pick him up just wait until he comes out. :)
to add to the discussion on sand, i'd like to add my own recent experience: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...d.php?p=546439.

Edit - Emily beat me to it, and great post on that thread, Em! And great post you too, David! Sometimes the truth has to be presented bluntly.
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
I guess what bothered me the most was Pwilliams apparent indifference....if you're a beginner or don't have the information, I understand completely and would never attempt to demean or be abrasive with someone who was genuinely in search of knowledge in their animals' best interests....I just got the impression that P-Will either didn't care or was too stubborn to admit they might be wrong.
Its OK bro....we all make mistakes, but believe me when I say your animals will thank you if you put down the wall and open your mind to the possibility of absorbing new info. We all learn new things every day!
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
ive got a leo as well and what ever site you look at besides the pet stores it says that sand can clog up their intestines. about the pet stores they are dumb

Just really keep your eye out for impaction. I lost a male a while back due to impaction and I would hate to have to say told you so later on.
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
i switched to astroturf a week or 2 ago
Re: Does this look like enough space for an adult leo?
My humid hide is a rubbermaid index card holder. I just cut a hole in the front, sanded the sharp edges down. I put paper towel in the bottom and wet it down daily. It's black so the Leo likes it during day. The top opens up for easy cleaning. It cost 1.60 at Walmart.
