Anyone here have a super cinny? How common is it to get them with the messed up nose? Do they all come out deformed?

I have heard that super cinnies can have "tweaked heads"... I'll have to do some digging to see if I can find where I read the information....

I assume its like the caramel kinks...not all are born with it, but its one trait they are occasionally afflicted with... But that's just my pure speculation.;)

That's one of the bits that I found...I think there was another describing the super cinny head "deformity issues".

That's what you said when I brought this up in the last Humid Hide chat a few months back :P

Then I tried to explain it to everyone, the consensus was that I was full of crap  LOL Then I linked some pics from different breeders which I thought showed this defect quite prominently, people argued that they were perfectly normal looking with no defects

The best way i can describe it on the ones I've seen is, it looks alot like snake the has developed a lump on the end of its nose due to abcess from rubbing too much etc (which obviously they haven't at birth).. Maybe some of the experts can describe it better

Now I finally have a quotable to prove that there was this one time when I wasnt full of crap :P LOL

Interestingly, some eight-balls are hatched with enlarged snouts or raised bumps on the tops of their noses, cosmetically an undesirable trait.

One of the first 2 Super Black Pastels ever produced had a cleft pallet...

I don't know if any Super Cinnys have been produced with this problem...

A good number of the super cinnies/super blacks that I have seen have the tweaked noses. I haven't paid enough attention to say that they "all" have it, but I wouldn't be surprised if you looked hard enough and found "something" a little wrong with all of them.

I was told that it is best to use two different lines of cinnies when making a super cinny to aviod this problem and that it comes from inbreeding. I will be making supers next year and have a BHB and Graziani line cinny for this reason.

Would them having something slightly wrong with them hurt there value in any way? Is it bad enough that you would notice?

Unfortunately, I've seen it in outcrossed super cinnies as well. Although, I do believe that outcrossing is the best way to avoid any problems.

I have a super cinnamon pastel and he is fine, However I have seen some with facial deformities but to my knowledge those have only came from black pastels. I do have both Cinnamons and Black Pastels and I did my first Black Pewter to Black Pastel female this year I hope it works out well.. I also bred a Cinnamon Pewter to several Cinnamons Females I am hoping that they all turn ok also.

Re: Anyone have a super cinny?
I was under the impression that the cinny x cinny made the possible pinched noses. Just what I was told by several people in talking, since I have cinnys and want to make a super cinny.
I'm thinking of getting some black pastels to breed to the cinnys, see if that makes a non-pinched nose super form. I haven't heard directly from anyone that has done that, but again, general consensus is that they are compatible. I guess next year I might find out.

To me it does appear to have a slightly bulbous nose, but nothing too extreme. The Silver Bullet looks the same to me as well. It certainly wouldn't disuade me from trying to produce my own eventually.
