I blame y'all. My first Crestie
Alright, I think I need therapy. You people, yes, you people are responsible for 2/3rds of my herps. :colbert: My Crestie and my RTB have arrived in my possesion because of the wonderful pictures and stories y'all have shared. :cens0r:
However, I take great delight in keeping said animals... So is it really a problem? :rolleye2: I dunno. lol:carrot:
Well, onto my crestie, Joe Schmo.

I think now would be the time to start saving up for a decent camera, as I cannot possibly take on another herp at the moment. lol. I have a question concerning feeding. I have made up some CGD and left it in the cage with him(her?) and am wondering whether he(she?) are going to need any help finding the CGD. I got Joe from Petco (I have to rescue those lil buggers, lol) and supposedly has been on CGD the entire time in their posession, with no additives. I plan on just feeding Joe CGD for the time being, but am planning on treating with a few bugs later down the road.

Ben, it always starts with one! and I hope I nudged you in the crestie direction with a picture or 3 . :P
Put the CGD in just before you turn off the lights at nite, he will find it.

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
Yea, I named him Joe Shmo because he's so chill, i heard babies are jumpy however he sat on my shoulder like a parrot while I put the last minute touches on his cage.
Ed, you've motivated me more towards saving up my $$$ for a spider bp than anything else. Your sorta counter intuitive when it comes to cresties. lol. It was mlededee and her avatar that pushed me over the edge.

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
YESSSS! (mwahahaahaaheeehaaa! :devilish: ) very nice new addition. i think my work here is done for today. now who's up for tomorrow? :D
what size enclosure do you have your new little one in? as long as it isn't too big he shouldn't have too much trouble finding the cgd. sometimes you do kind of have to show them the dish at first, or place it somewhere that you notice they hang out or hide a lot. don't worry if you don't see him eat right away though--he will need a few days to settle in and explore his new digs. :)

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
he's in a medium sized critter keeper at the moment. I had started out with aspen as the substrate, but seeing as he immediately started to bury himself rather than chill in the plants I figure I may need a different substrate as I was intending to have him on display, since my RTB is in a tub, and my ball is shyer than all heck. Any suggestions?

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
i use paper towels in all my crested enclosures. if you want to use something nicer and won't be feeding insects often try some cage carpet. i really liked the look and neatness of it when i used it for my cresteds at one point, but i found that some of them caught their teeth in it every time they tried to grab a cricket. sometimes they got really stuck and had to violently shake and twist to get their teeth out of it--that's why i switched completely to paper towels. if you feed phoenix worms instead of crickets or feed crickets from a dish (pull of their back legs so they can't jump out) then it could be a good option.

UPDATE:
The darn thing creeps me out. No matter where he is in his cage, everytime I look over at him he's staring at me. At the same time, whenever I hold him he crawls up to my shoulder and just sits there. or decides he want a higher perch and climbs on my ear. Either way, I heard juvies were jumpy, and this fella just wants to get comfy and sit still. I wish my beagle could learn a few things from him. lol.

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
ha ha, hes' just checking you out. from his point of view, you are the one staring at him! :omg: it's cool that he is relaxed--some are just more chill than others--sounds like you got a good one. :)

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
Of course I got a good one. duh. He's mine, I got the best! :P lol
Not complaining really, i like him. I like how I know where he is at all times. Just have to look for the purplish/pink eyes. lol

haha, I got mine one of those fake dead trees with all the holes in it for them to hide in, along with some plants. But he's always in one of three places.
#1) On the ground where he has dug almost to the bottom of the bedding to lay close to the UTH when it gets cool. But thats been 3 times I've spotted him there now.
#2) His favorite is inside the log halfway up with just his head sticking out. Of course... staring at me.
#3) On the very top of the log hiding in the plant leaves. but once again, his lil noggin is stickin out, staring at me.
He's so awesome some of my friends who dislike my bp because she's puny compared to my RTB, has fallen for him. lol.

since cresteds are arboreal many people that have to use a uth put it on the side or back of their enclosure. this way the gecko can hang out on a branch or on the side/back of the tank. it does depend somewhat on what kind of setup you have, but it's just a thought. :)

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
hey check out the lil guy, helooks just like my biggie, and does the same thing, everytime i look in there hes stareing at me. the first couple days my g/f was gettin changed and she happend to look over and biggie was like stareing at her like ooooo lol. And if he is not stareing at her, hes stareing at himself in the reflection on the other side of the tank..its hilarious...Congrats on your new guy and good luck youll love it.. new party show and tell pet lol, everyone always wants to play wit the reptiles.

Re: I blame y'all. My first Crestie
the temps are always around 78 degrees in the room, so i dont want to heat his enclosure too much so i put it on the bottom so if he needs to, which isnt often he can pick up those few extra degrees.
