Another horrible petshop thread...
So i go to get some feeders and i always check out there reptiles, this one BP has been "shedding" for more than a week now, the shed on its belly is off, but the top half is all on still, there was a spot on his eyes, then i check out the other one, and there were mites all over it so i did all i could, i couldnt bare watching this and not doing nothing, so i stayed for a half hour or so soaking the one snake and pluckin mites off the other. i felt so bad i almost bought it, i know snakes with might are not worth anything, but i wanted to take it home for the snakes sake. i even told them hey this snakes got mights, that ones got shed on its eyes and they acted like i said it in chinese. i did all i could, i am going to try and get the snake from them. i cant believe how :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:tyt hey treat them :(

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
Totally agree with ya! I have the same issue with a local pet shop here as well. YOu can only do what you can though and atleast you show you care unlike the individuals that work there.

I'd also be very careful about not bringing mites home to your snake. I'd throw the clothes into the washer immediately, and wash thoroughly. I'd hate for their problem to turn into a problem for you. Just remember if you purchase a snake from a place, you are promoting their practice. They will just turn around and replace it with another animal. You can't be responsible for every animal, but if you feel the neglect is bad enough report it to the local authority. Write letters to the store, and maybe direct them information sources.

yea thats a good idea, but i wasnt planning on buying, i felt bad enough to but then i was like no because it would just make it seem more ok to them..but someone who works there wanted to just throw it to me. some of the emploeyees feel bad to, he said he feels bad that they dont get the proper home and nutrition they need.

Aw.. I can relate. I saw a baby red tail boa at a petstore today and I felt so bad for the poor thing. I don't think it's been eating and it seemed very weak and slow. It's so hard to put in back in the cage, but I know taking him home wouldn't solve the problem.

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
Well i went back there today to get some crickets and decided to check on the snakes...this time the mite situation was so bad i could see a colony running around, and the one snake that had dry shed stock on like half its body is still there and when i picked him up, some of it like flaked off in little bits and the rest was stuck, the other one was laying in its own sh*t. this time i had them get me some mite off and i sprayed them down, threw the other snake in its water dish, maybe itll help him get some shed off of him. if it gets any worse im callin animal control..

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
Plucking mites off a snake will do absolutely nothing.

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
Mite off on the other hand though might do something...lol

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
As tempting as it is to purchase an animal from a petshop that isn't in good health, I personally wouldn't do it. As soon as you buy that snake they'll replace it with another that will be just as bad off. It's really a lose, lose situation for the animals unless there is someway you can convince the shop to actually take better care of their animals, but most of them just don't care.

Re: Another horrible petshop thread...
well i have to idea, one would be to get the snake before it dies(for free) and the other is to call animal control because its seeming bad enough to do so.

I don't see them giving you the snake for free. If they were in it for anything other than money they wouldn't have the snake living under these conditions in the first place.
Giving animal control a call is definitely worth a shot. Not sure how much authority they have in a situation like that, but it doesn't hurt to try. Maybe even having the officers coming out to their shop would be enough to make them realize they need to get their act together.
I wish you the best of luck with this. It's hard to watch an animal suffer needlessly like that.
