    I'm worried Help please
Okay, So i have a 100 watt Daylight Buld on my warm side which warms heats up to about 89-90 degress I also have a U.T.H on the warmside. I have my Daylight Bub hooked up a thermonstat which i leaves on for about 12 hours. after the daylight bub goes off i usea 75 watt moonlight on the coolside in addittion to an u.t.h. My main question is am i doing this right the guy who i bought the snake from said just keep the daylight on during the day and at night turn on the moonlight? Humidity is okay for now. also i want to know how long does it take for a snake to get use to its tank i'm pretty sure that he's stressed out, but i know that's my falt because i was having trouble heating up the cage. he havent really settled down, or even hid in his hide box

Often, a bright white light shining directly into the cage can be VERY stress inducing for them. They don't need a "daylight" like that....just the ambient light that's in your room naturally is plenty for them to have a healthy day/night cycle.

As for heat...the heat pad should be hooked up to a t-stat as well. They can get far too hot if not properly controlled. The heat pad alone should be enough to heat the warm side of the enclosure, unless you've got a really thick layer of substrate. (If so, thin it out until the pad can heat the surface of the substrate without overheating the glass beneath it.)

If you still need supplemental heating to get the right ambient temp range...continue using the night light on the cool side. The whole setup should remain the same day or night as far as temps go. ~92 - ~82 24/7.

What kind of thermometer are you using? I ask this because, I use a UTH on my hot side and a 100 watt red night bulb in middle of my tank. I didn't have thermometer at the time. When I did get one the temp on my hot was about 110 to 115  . I bought a better thermometer and a t-stat and all seems fine now. My BP was never settled down and always roaming ( stressed ). I have the UTH and red bulb on the t-stat set at 92.5, with that setting the bulb keeps the ccol side at 82 to 84 and the hot side 92 to 93. I would check and make sure your temps are correct.

i HaVe ThE rEPTITEM 500R, i'm feeling better thnks to you people, My warm side temp in a warm 90-93 and my cool side is a a kool 80 humidity is at 55 today after misting the cage. I think that the daylight was sucking all the Humidity out of the cage, but for some reason my bp is in the lower left hand corner of his cage the cool side right between the hide he never uses and the glass. I hope he is settling down.

Do you have thermometer? I would not trust the temps on the t-stat. I have a 500R and the temps on those vary up & down alot. If you don't have a thermometer get one, Accurite at Walmart for about 13.00. Are your hides the same ( indentical ) he may like one better over the other . Hope this helps.

Yes, I actually have two thrmometer an indoor out door acurite one, i keep inside the tank exactly in the middles with the probe on the warm side above the hide on the warm side, it also gives me humidty too. The other i use for the cool side with just the probe in the tank. I am thinking about getting an 100 watt moonlight bulb and re-placing it with my 75 watt because i am having trouble maintaing the cool side temp, which is about 75 - 78. And for the hides he has never actually been in one yet he is still on right behinf his hide not in it on. He actually havent moved in a long time now.

Try placing the probe INSIDE the warm hide. It can be many degrees warmer in there than it is in the surrounding air. The temps inside the hide are the ones you want to regulate as that is where the snake would be spending most of its time. Good chance it's not going into the hide because it's too hot in there.

Just to check...without changing anything else...tuck the probe inside the hide and let it sit for an hour or so...and see if the temps read any differently.

The hides are too too hot on the warm side they are 96 degrees with the probe inside i know the temp should be around 90-92 degrees i am going to relocate me probe and place them in the hide now

It looks like your tank is like mine. Here's what I did to get my temps right. I have the thermometer probe and the t-stat probe in the hot side hide. I set the t-stat at 92. let the hide warm up to about 92 on your thermometer and set your t-stat to shut off at that temp. You see with your t-stat that the temp will rise to about 94 or so. I had the same t-stat and this is what mine did. The temp should then drop to 92 or mid 90's then come on again. I put my light ( 100 watt red bulb ) in the middle of the tank, this is also on the t-stat. My cool side is 80 to 84 this way. Note - I do have humidifier to keep the humidiy up. If I were you I would use something other than the log hides, like two tupperware bowls( breakfast bowls ) with an opening cut in them to make your BP more secure. This is what I did and it seems to work. Up to you.

Try putting him in the hide yourself. He may not feel secure in the half log you have for a hide. As I said before, try getting two hides ( the same ). You can get two of the plastic bowls from a Dollar Store or Walmart. Cut an opening in them for the snake to enter. I would get the bowls and put the snake in the bowl on the warm side. Then let him be. Good Luck!

Last night after making the arrangments earlier in the day arounf 1:30 am he finally got out the corner and was up and about checking out his cage. since my bed in right across from the cage across the room he can sense me in the room. I seen him last night for like about four times just open his mouth back to back.

As some people may know i recently have gotten a ball python, and i have been having trouble with his husbandry so far i have finally perfected my Temps and i am happy know, all i am worrying about is helping him settle in. Today was feeding day and my instinct told me that he wasn't gonna eat because he havent even been in his hides yet so i am gonna wait until next thursday to try again. The hide i had were the open log hides, i figured that he didn't like them. So i bought to knew hides Reptile CAves and after taking him out of his feeding container after not eating i placed him inside of his hides. So far his is still in there he poked his head out and went back in and actually moved back, i hope this works because i am very anxious but patient to start handling him, but since he is not settled in yet i am just gonna give him his room.
