Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
I saw it and thought it was funny but not as funny as everyone was making it out to be. I personally like the Ali G character better.

I loved it. Great movie. Seen it twice and laughed just as much the second time.

Hahaha....that movie has a weird place in my head. I laughed like crazy throughout the movie...but there are now images burned into my brain that I'd just as soon not be there. :P
I can certainly see how it can be a "love it" or "hate it" movie, but I don't fall into either category. For sure, it was probably the most unique movie I've seen in.....ever? LOL

Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
I think it was way less "stupid comedy" than I thought it was going to be. Yes, it had some of the slap-stick and ridiculousness...but it was also a VERY honest look at Americans.
All of those people that he was encountering were REAL people, not actors... the song he sang in the country-western bar? The one that made you cringe and then feel horrified when the crowd starts MERRILY SINGING ALONG? Those are real people. The guy at the rodeo, advising him to change his name/the way he talks so people don't think he's a terrorist? A real person. The people swearing at Borat and being jerks on the subway? Real people.
I actually think that, below the weirdness, it's a commentary about the America that the rest of us like to ignore. We like to pretend that our country's beyond the anti-semetic, sexist, homophobic and racist place that it used to be...but in some places it's just not.
It made me really think about were we live :) It was a brilliant film.

Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
Are you sure none of that was "staged"? It really was people that had no clue "Borat" wasn't a real person, and that he was just making a real movie?

Who knows. They said that other than the crew, only Pamela Anderson knew what was going to happen.

Yes thats why he got sued because when it came out on film people were ashamed to show their true colors. Some stuff may be staged but most of it is not. The Pam Anderson thing had to be staged.

Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
If was stage or not it was hilarious... I loved that movie....

Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
Dumbest movie I've ever seen. I didn't laugh much in it, my brother laughed his behind off and asked if I thought our parents would think it was funny - uh - NO! LOL

I'm sure some of it was staged, like the part with Pam Anderson at the end, but a great majority of the movie was him interacting with real people as IF he was filming a documentary for his country as Borat.
In fact, he's being sued by some of those people, because they were mis-led in what they were being filmed for. In this article http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006520803,00.html
It names those who have sued or plan on suing, including: The Frat boys in the mobile home, one of the people in Borat's "hometown" (which was an actual Villiage in Romania), the TV Producer from the news program where Borat was being "interviewed" and he interrupted the weather man lost her job after the event so she's suing, The Rodeo manager (who made some pretty racist comments), The driving instructor, the car salesman, and the owner of the bed and breakfast....
They had no idea that this "documentary" for a small country was really a movie that was going to be released in the US, for all their own countrymen to see. I think knowing that they're real people he's interacting with really make one take a different perspective on what happened.

I've also heard the prostatute that he "falls in love with" also knew.
I thought it was funny, but my wife didn't like it at much. She said that people made it sound super funny and it just wasn't THAT funny to her.
I agree kim, I was appauled at how racist some of the people were being, and I think they're just mad because they got caught being that way, on film :-p

Re: Did anyone else see that movie Borat???
It was definitely real. I thought it was an absolutely brilliant commentary, and I can see why some folks are upset...they revealed their ignorance and prejudice in some pretty apalling ways. From what I heard, the people who appeared in it signed an exhaustively comprehensive release form before they were filmed, so I doubt the lawsuits will go anywhere. I had not heard that the Pamela Anderson thing was staged, but I'm not surprised...it explains why he was able to get away with it.
I loved it, every minute. My bf watched it, said he hated it, but laughed uproariously quite frequently. :-P
